The Baltimore Orioles have designated veteran reliever Jeremy Accardo for assignment.Accardo struggled in his first season with the Orioles, going 3-3 with a 5.29 ERA in 32 1/3 innings. He was the losing pitcher in Friday's 8-4 defeat at the hands of the Washington Nationals, surrendering three runs in a third of an inning.Accardo has a 4.13 career ERA in seven seasons with the San Francisco Giants, Toronto Blue Jays and Orioles. His best season came in 2007, when he recorded 30 saves and a 2.14 ERA in his lone campaign as a closer with Toronto.The Orioles made a handful of other moves Saturday, optioning infielder Ryan Adams to Triple-A Norfolk while recalling pitcher Brad Bergesen and purchasing the contract of infielder Blake Davis.Bergesen is expected to take Accardo's spot in the Baltimore bullpen.
