Fifth times the charm, right? Dan Duquette has been hired by the Baltimore Orioles to be their new puppet to Peter Angelos General Manager. He has previous experience with the Expos (1991-1994) and the Red Sox (1994-2002). Duquette left the Expos at their peak, right when they had the best record in baseball during the strike shortened year. He was removed from the Red Sox in 2002, but a substantial part of the 2004 World Series team is thanks to his work. Varitek, Lowe, Pedro,Wakefield, Manny and Damon are just some of the guys he brought into the Red Sox organization.
While the addition of Duquette will allow the O’s to move forward, it’s a terrible sign that they were not able to get one of their top choices. Tony LaCava, DeJon Watson and Allard Baird all turned down the Orioles to remain with their current squads. Jerry Dipoto also rejected the opportunity to work with the O’s, wisely choosing the general management position with the LA Angels.
