BALTIMORE -- The combination of Chris Tillman's pitching and Ryan Flaherty's power gave the Baltimore Orioles a crucial pennant-race victory Friday night. Flaherty hit a first-inning grand slam moments after Chris Davis belted a two-run homer, and Tillman threw eight innings of one-hit baseball to help the Orioles to a 9-1 victory over the Boston Red Sox. The Orioles (90-67) are trying to lock up their first playoff spot since 1997, and they could do that with three wins in their last five games, regardless of what any other team does. Flaherty later added an RBI double and finished 2-for-4 with a career-high five RBI. The Orioles, who homered seven times in their last game, finished with two this time and set a new franchise record for homers in a season at Camden Yards with 122. Flaherty's gotten several chances recently after second baseman Robert Andino was hit in the head in Boston last Friday night. Since manager Buck Showalter gave Flaherty some more pla...

The Baltimore Orioles celebrated the 20th anniversary of Camden Yards this year. A few more winning seasons and the Orioles just might get back to the sell-out crowds that filled Camden Yards in 1992 and for nearly a decade thereafter. The high-water mark for attendance at Camden Yards was in 1997, when the the Orioles won the American League East with a record of 98-64. The end of the regular season is almost here, and, judging by the pace of Friday's game, it can't get here fast enough. Chris Tillman allowed a leadoff single to Scott Podsednik, but that was all the Red Sox could muster as the Orioles cruised past them in a 2:23 game to win 9-1. It was a needed win for the Orioles as they try to keep pace with the Yankees in the divisional...
BALTIMORE -- The Orioles honored Hall of Fame third baseman Brooks Robinson before Saturday's game with Boston, unveiling a statue of him behind the bullpen in left-center field. Robinson spoke to the press a few minutes later and mentioned the way rookie third baseman Manny Machado's caught his eye. And with the way this season's gone for the Orioles, who else could...

It's been one year since the Red Sox were knocked out of the playoffs by the Baltimore Orioles. In the course of the world, that might not be a very long time. On the other hand, looking back at what's happened to the Sox and O's since then, it might as well have been forever ago. This time, the roles are reversed with Baltimore fighting for a playoff spot and Boston...

The Baltimore Orioles are so close, they can taste it. They haven’t been in the postseason for a while but they appear to be in good shape to end that drought. All it takes is one more good week – or one more so-so week – and they’re in.
Playing the role of spoiler will be the Boston Red Sox, who could really use a decent finish to head into the offseason...
Editor's note: The temperature gauge is a Bill James-created statistic that measures how hot or cold hitters are. We will spotlight Red Sox and opposing team temperatures on game days. Just when Boston didn't think it could get any worse, Chris Tillman took the mound. Tillman shut down Red Sox hitters, allowing just one hit over eight innings of work on Friday, and left Boston...
