The Baltimore Orioles are attempting to make the playoffs
for the first time in over a decade, but they’ll have to do it without veteran
left-hander Randy Wolf. While Wolf is
done for the season, the O’s are hoping to get right-hander Jason Hammel back
for the end of the regular season or the start of the playoffs.
The Orioles placed Wolf on their 60-day disabled list yesterday after it was discovered the southpaw had sustained an ulnar
collateral ligament tear in his elbow.
The injury usually requires Tommy John surgery, a procedure the veteran also
underwent in 2005, but nothing has been announced at this point.
Though Wolf’s season is over, there’s still a chance Hammel could rejoin the team this year. The
right-hander’s been sidelined with a knee injury for the past two weeks, but he
was able to log a successful bullpen session yesterday. Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Hammel
could return in time to be included on the team’s playoff roster.

Orioles Split Series With Jays; Win 89th Game...
After losing three out of their last four games, the Orioles needed a win in the worst way in game 156 of the season. With a Yankees win earlier in the afternoon, and the Rays, Angels along with the Athletics having won as well on Wednesday, another loss to Toronto would have added more angst to those in Birdland.
However, the Orioles got their swagger back as they went all-homer...
1-3 stretch is Orioles' worst spell since late July
It's still too early to lock the Orioles into or out of any playoff positions, but the last few days, the club has headed in the wrong direction. The race tightens
The Orioles split their double header against the Jays yesterday, lost a half a game against the Yankees but saw no real movement in the wild card. One Year After Collapse, Red Sox Revisit Camden Yards With Final Chance to Get Revenge on Orioles (Video)
It's been one year since the Red Sox were knocked out of the playoffs by the Baltimore Orioles. In the course of the world, that might not be a very long time.
