The Baltimore Orioles had trade discussions with the Tampa Bay Rays and the Minnesota Twins about shortstops Jason Bartlett and J.J. Hardy respectively, according to The Baltimore Sun's Jeff Zrebiec.

The O's are in search of a shortstop, and they haven't ruled out bringing back Cesar Izturis, Zrebiec says.

The Rays and Orioles have talked about a potential trade involving Orioles' reliever David Hernandez for Bartlett, however the deal appears to be unlikely at this point.

Orioles president Andy MacPhail, said he met with several teams regarding potential trades.

We’ve had some productive discussions,” MacPhail said.

While Zrebiec says a Hernandez for Bartlett trade makes sense, some within the Orioles organization say that the 25-year-old Hernandez is too valuable to give up.

Both Bartlett and Hardy will be free agents following the 2011 season.
