Orioles OF Reimold out with bulging disk in neck

Associated Press  |  Last updated May 01, 2012
Nolan Reimold will miss the final two games of the Baltimore Orioles' series against the New York Yankees because of a bulging disk in his back. The outfielder went 0 for 4 in Monday night's series opener as the Orioles lost 2-1, then called head trainer Rich Bancells. ''Last night when he got back to the hotel he called Rich and he said that he had some tingling, numbness in his fingers,'' manager Buck Showalter said. ''When your body spasms like that, it's trying to tell you something.'' Reimold, hitting .313 with five homers and 10 RBIs, returned to Baltimore on Tuesday to be examined. Showalter said Reimold was given tablets of Medrol the team hopes will reduce swelling and there is a chance Reimold can return to action for Friday's series opener at Boston. ''Hopefully, it sounds worse than it actually is,'' Showalter said. ''If he doesn't get relief from it, then we'll see what the next step is.'' Hitting coach Jim Presley was taken to a hospital early Tuesday with a kidney stone. Showalter said Presley passed one stone and that two remained. ''They were trying to get to Presbyterian, but they didn't make it. They got to Lenox Hill,'' Showalter said. ''He was screaming at the cabbie, `That's it. Let me out.' ... Screams of anguish.'' Left-hander Tsuyoshi Wada, facing possible elbow ligament reconstruction surgery, was in California to be examined by Los Angeles Angels medical director Dr. Lewis Yocum. Wada already had an MRI exam and was awaiting results of an additional test, possibly a CT scan.
