Found June 28, 2012 on Pro Sports Daily:
The Orioles placed designated hitter Nick Johnson on the disabled list with a wrist injury and recalled outfielder Xavier Avery. Johnson sprained his right wrist in Wednesday's loss to the Angels after one at-bat. He has undergone multiple surgeries on that wrist. He's batting .207 with four home runs and 11 RBIs this season. Avery was a second-round pick in the 2008 draft. He spent time on the Orioles' roster in May, filling in for Nolan Reimold (neck) and Endy Chavez (intercostal strain) in left field and as the Orioles' lead-off man.

The Solowheel: Sure to revolutionize relief pitchers’ commute to the mound (videos)

For every kind of relief pitcher there is in the major leagues, there is a method by which relievers make there way to the mound when their number is called: some lackadaisically trot out to the mound from the bullpen, others storm out of the gate sprinting, like a bull being released into a ring [...]

Bird Flying Below the Radar: Chris Tillman

The Orioles got off to a fast start this year, but have been coming back to Earth of late.  Still, the club is second in the American League East, and seven games over .500.  Not too shabby for a team expected by most to be the doormat of the division.  It's unlikely they'll remain second in the division, but if they want any hope of doing so, they'll need better starting...

Baltimore Orioles Struggles are Cause for Concern not Time to Panic

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Every Major League Baseball team will struggle mightily at one point or another throughout the course of a 162 game season. Rarely is a team hot or dominant all season. The issue with this Orioles team is that it is easier for the long suffering fan base to believe that these are the real Baltimore Orioles than...

Orioles Using Bloomberg's Data Presentation Tool

Yesterday the Orioles held an event at Camden Yards with Bloomberg Sports to show off the Bloomberg Baseball Data Tool they've started using (you know, the one that makes those graphics we see on the broadcast showing that Brian Matusz throws 55% fastballs, 15% change-ups, etc.). I unfortunately forgot my notepad, so the recap is all from memory. Dan Duquette* spoke briefly...

Series Preview: Indians at Orioles 6/28 - 7/1

The good news is, Casey Kotchman broke Andy Pettitte's ankle and he will be out for 6 weeks. You can't cheat your way out of a fractured leg. And now for something completely different. June 28th, 7:05 PM EDT: Zach McAllister, RHP, 1-1, 3.96 ERA vs Wei-Yin Chen, LHP, 7-3, 3.38 ERA McAllister will be making his triumphant return to the big leagues in place of Jeanmar...

Nick Johnson, Sidelined Orioles Designated Hitter, Has Missed More MLB Games Than He's Played

It's become one of those rites of baseball. Every spring, the Yankees emerge in pinstripes, the Fenway franks hit the grill and Nick Johnson begins his inexorable march toward the disabled list. No one was surprised Thursday when Johnson, now the designated hitter for the Baltimore Orioles, landed on the 15-day disabled list, the 14th time in 12 seasons he's been sidelined...

Dugout Digest - Jason Hammel implodes

Baltimore Orioles starter Jason Hammel has been one of the biggest surprises of the baseball season after the Orioles traded for him this offseason in exchange for veteran Jeremy Guthrie. Going into last night's game against the Angels, Hammel had a sterling 2.61 ERA, and was coming off of a pair of dominant outings in which he had allowed just six hits, one unearned...

Orioles 9, Indians 8

Ryan Flaherty singled in the tiebreaking run in the seventh inning, Matt Wieters hit a three-run homer, and the Baltimore Orioles broke out of their scoring funk with a 9-8 victory over the Cleveland Indians on Friday night. On a steamy night in which temperatures reached 100 degrees, both teams worked up a sweat circling the bases. Cleveland had a season-high 16 hits, but the Orioles...

Can Brian Matusz Ever Regain What Made Him So Special at the End of 2010?

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt;">Right now, despite the Orioles doing relatively well so far this season, it is been apparent that there’s been an issue with the starting pitching outside of Jason Hammel and Wei-Yin Chen.   On Tuesday night, southpaw Brian Matusz struggled on the mound again in a loss...

Mike Trout makes crazy catch to rob J.J. Hardy of home run (Video)

Your browser does not support iframes. Mike Trout leads the American League in batting average and stolen bases, and if they had a category for spectacular catches, he’d be leading that too. The 20-year-old outfielder made a perfectly timed jump to rob Orioles shortstop J.J. Hardy of a home run to center in the first inning of Wednesday’s Angels-Orioles game. Trout extended...
