The Baltimore Orioles are pursuing Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Jason Kubel, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. Sources: #Orioles pursuing trade for #Diamondbacks' Kubel. Talks not at advanced stage. Orioles also like #Tigers' Porcello. — Ken Rosenthal (@Ken_Rosenthal) January 23, 2013 Rosenthal adds that discussions between the Orioles and Diamondbacks have yet to reach an advanced stage. He also notes that the Orioles are interested in Detroit Tigers right-hander Rick Porcello, though it would be unlikely for the team to acquire both players. The Diamondbacks are reportedly weighing an offer for outfielder Justin Upton from the Atlanta Braves. They are hoping to trade one of Upton or Kubel in the next few days, according to reports, though it remains to be determined which player will be moved. Baltimore discussed Kubel with the Diamondbacks earlier this offseason, and at the time Arizona was interested in Baltimore’s young pitching. This list of potential targets includes Chris Tillman, Brian Matusz, Zach Britton, Jake Arrieta and Steve Johnson. The Orioles are extremely unlikely to trade top prospect Dylan Bundy for anyone, much less Kubel. Rosenthal later expanded his list of Orioles targets to include free agent Joe Saunders and Chicago Cubs slugger Alfonso Soriano. Baltimore has been tied to Saunders for much of the offseason, while Rosenthal lists Soriano as the team’s least likely acquisition. Baltimore Orioles sign Jair Jurrjens to one year deal

The Baltimore Orioles and Jair Jurrjens have come to terms on a one-year contract for 2013. Jurrjens was non-tendered by the Braves earlier this offseason. Jurrjens will have a base salary of $1.5 million, incentives could push the deal to $4 million reports CBSsports.. Last season Jurrjens was 3-4 with a 6.89 ERA at the big league level and spent a good part of the year in the minors...

Orioles Continue Inactive Offseason By Signing Jair Jurrjens

Despite surprising everyone by winning 93 games and qualifying for the postseason last year, the Orioles haven’t done much of anything this winter. Other than re-signing Nate McLouth, all of their moves have been small trades (Danny Valencia, Trayvon Robinson, Yamaico Navarro), minor league signings (Daniel Schlereth, Zach Braddock, Travis Ishikawa), or waiver claims (Luis Martinez...

Rosenthal: Zero Chance Mets Meet Michael Bourn's Price

While the New York Mets have been rumored to be one of the teams interested in Michael Bourn, the former Atlanta Braves' outfielder may have too high a price tag.  Considering the fact that Bourn is still a free agent, many teams may have already expressed their concerns and passed on Bourn.  The Mets likely will as well. According to Ken Rosenthal, the Mets would be doubly...

The Orioles today announced the coaching staffs for their seven minor league teams

Pavano hurt spleen doing what?!?

Pitcher Carl Pavano hurt his spleen in an odd way and reportedly will miss 6-8 weeks. He is currently a free agent after spending the last four seasons with the Twins.

Baltimore Orioles mascot biting Lindsey Vonn (photos)

Lindsey Vonn, the hottest female athlete ever, threw out the first ball when the Baltimore Orioles took on the Boston Red Sox last week. Here we are in May and the O’s are .500 and ahead of the Sox in the standings, who would have predicted that? But enough MLB talk, let’s move on to the pics. Rosenthal: Mets Want To Sign Bourn To Longterm Backloaded Deal

According to what a source told Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, the Mets have sincere interest in signing free-agent outfileder Michael Bourn to a long-term deal, but that any deal will likely be backloaded. I thought that was something we were getting away from because it was hazardous to our health? Backloaded deals, future annuity payments, deferred salaries, lot’s of the same...

Mets Gamble $4 million on Marcum

Yesterday the New York Mets agreed to a 1-year contract with former Brewers pitcher Shaun Marcum, pending a physical. Today the 31-year-old righty passed his physical and the 1-year/$4 million contract was made official. According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, incentives could drive that price tag up to $6 million in 2013.

The New York Mets and Michael Bourn

As we discussed a couple days ago, it seems unlikely that the New York Mets will sign Michael Bourn primarily because of the draft pick compensation they will have to give up.  The Mets hold the 11th pick in the draft this year which happens to be the first unprotected pick in the new CBA's compensation system.  If they sign Bourn, they would have to give that 11th overall...

Cubs and Scott Hairston Agree On Two Year Deal

According to a report from Ken Rosenthal, the Cubs are in agreement with Scott Hairston on a two-year contract. Rosenthal indicated the deal is pending a physical and did not report the terms. Scott Hairston was reportedly looking for a two-year, $8 million contract to which the Mets balked and countered with a one year deal for $2 million. That’s where it apparently ended....

Phillies sign Delmon Young to deal

The Phillies have signed Delmon Young to a one-year deal for $750,000, adding to their outfield depth. His contract includes roster and performance bonuses that could bring the total value of the deal to $3.25 million, a source told senior MLB writer Ken Rosenthal. The 27-year-old outfielder batted .267 with 27 doubles, 18 homers and 74 RBIs for Detroit last season...

Rosenthal: Zero Chance Mets sign Michael Bourn

According to Jon Harper of the Daily News, the New York Mets have spoken to the agents of free-agent outfielder, Michael Bourn, and would have a lot more interest in signing the 30-year-old speedster if it would not cost them their 2013 first round pick: #bbpBox_294263563709730818 a { text-decoration:none; color:#0084B4; }#bbpBox_294263563709730818 a:hover { text-decoration:underline...

The next 100 million dollar man?

Fox Sports Ken Rosenthal is reporting that pitcher Felix Hernandez has been in talks with the Seattle Mariners about extending his contract. The early rumors are that Hernandez could be offered a four-year extension at $100 million. Hernandez currently has two more years remaining on his contract; therefore, such an extension would put him [...]

Rosenthal: Mets-Bourn match looks unlikely

The rumors of the New York Mets interest in free agent Michael Bourn have been escalating in recent days, some going as far as to say the team would seriously consider a backloaded deal if it wouldn’t cost them their first round pick in 2013.  As I wrote the other day, I just don’t buy it.  We are talking about a 30-year-old free agent outfielder that makes his living with...
