Call it a miracle, but the Boston Red Sox expect David Ortiz to rejoin the team next Friday, April 19th. Ortiz is scheduled to start playing in Pawtucket with the AAA team today and will need somewhere in the range of 20-30 at bats before being ready to return. Ortiz has been sidelined since last season, he did not participate in spring training because of a nagging heal injury. If Ortiz is ready to return on the 19th it will give a boost to the entire club, they seem to be lacking a form of energy that only Big Papi can bring. It was odd to hear his name not called at the home opener on Monday. Ortiz has been with the Red Sox since 2003 and played in 90 games last season hitting 23 home runs. The Red Sox lineup looks much more intimidating when it involves David Ortiz and I cant wait to see the number 34 back in the batters box in Fenway Park.
