Chris Sale doesn't know exactly when his next start is. John Danks doesn't even know if he'll pitch again this season. And Jose Quintana wished he didn't pitch as poorly as he did Monday the Chicago White Sox's 7-6 loss to the Minnesota Twins.

Just another night in the soap opera that is the Chicago rotation.

It was Quintana on the mound for the start of the Minnesota series, as the lefty picked a bad night to be, well, bad. He was spotted a four-run lead in the first and then gave it right back in the bottom of the inning.

It was the second consecutive shaky outing by the rookie, as Quintana allowed four runs in his last start, also against Minnesota. He received a no-decision in both games.

As for Sale, he was pulled out of the rotation due to "dead arm" issues, a decision made easier when the Sox acquired Francisco Liriano on Saturday. When Sale will return, however, is anyone's guess.

"It depends how he's feeling," manager Robin Ventura said. "Talking to him (Sunday) and flying up here, it wouldn't be a bad thing for him to have that time off to get refreshed and ready to go again."

The plan is for Sale to play catch Tuesday, then throw a bullpen session two days before the White Sox plan to start him, whenever that is.

As for Danks, he was given a new throwing program Friday, which had him throwing exclusively off the mound as he works his way back from a shoulder strain. On Monday, though, he was told to go back to playing catch. Not exactly good news.

"I just do what I'm told," Danks said. "I don't know. I played catch and ran around, and I'm ready for BP. Yeah, it wasn't any better or any worse. It's getting frustrating, but I've got to deal with it.

"I'm kind of glad we didn't throw off the mound (Monday). It wasn't too bad, but I definitely like the break. It's not fun going out there and trying to push through something. But you've got to do what you got to do."

Danks hasn't pitched since late May.
