Left-hander Josh Outman was sitting on a big lead and in line for a win, but for the second straight start he couldn't make it through the requisite five innings. Saturday at Texas, Outman took the mound in the fifth with the Colorado Rockies leading the Rangers 11-1. Manager Jim Tracy loosened the reins on the 75-pitch limit for his four starters and let Outman throw 92 pitches. It wasn't enough to get him through the fifth. He lasted 4 2/3 innings and was knocked out during Texas' six-run fifth that cut the Rockies' lead to 11-7, which turned out to be the final score. The Rockies staked Outman to a 7-0 lead after two innings Thursday. This time, he gave back the entire lead as the Nationals erupted for five runs in the third, which turned out to be Outman's last inning. The Nationals tallied four more runs to tie the game at 9 in the fifth, and Bryce Harper led off the ninth with a homer to tie the game at 10. But the Rockies won 11-10 in 11 innings wh...

The Rockies Should Trade Michael Cuddyer

Michael Cuddyer will remain a member of the Colorado Rockies. Even though the team has allegedly received numerous calls about the veteran outfielder, Rockies GM Dan O’Dowd has insisted that Cuddyer isn’t going anywhere. But with the Rockies already 13.5 games back, and Cuddyer struggling, O’Dowd may want to reconsider. When Cuddyer signed his three-year, $31.5 million contract...

The Colorado Rockies desperately need to rebuild, stubbornly refuse to do so

The plight of the Colorado Rockies would be hilarious if the whole thing weren't so dang depressing.  Midway through a wretched season that is getting worse by the minute, the Rockies are a team ravaged by injuries, ineffectiveness and, worst of all, poor management both in the dugout and in the front office.  They are a franchise that simply screams to be blown up and rebuilt...

Tyler Colvin - A Coors mirage

The perception surrounding Tyler Colvin has been that the Cubs mishandled their 2006 first round draft pick and a change of scenery would probably do him good. But the perception is really not correct. Colvin has far too many flaws in his game and was given opportunities by the Cubs to prove he belonged in the big leagues and he did not produce. Perhaps the perceptions began with...

Bryce Harper’s Coors Field Blast Grants Fans Bonus Baseball

Harper’s 8th career home run off Rafael Betancourt in the top of the 9th inning. I knew Bryce Harper couldn’t get out of town without dialing one long distance in Colorado. He waited until his final at-bat in the four game series to put another notch in his belt. This one tied the game at 10-10 off Rockies closer Rafael Betancourt. The Rockies escaped with an 11-10 victory in...

Rockies 10, Padres 2

Jeff Francis pitched six scoreless innings, and Rex Brothers bailed out newly recalled Tyler Chatwood before the Colorado Rockies broke out for a 10-2 victory over the San Diego Padres on Friday night. Michael Cuddyer and Wilin Rosario each hit two-run homers in the eighth inning to help secure the win for Francis. Francis (1-1) became the first Rockies starter to earn a win since...

Time for Rockies to move forward

To say that the Colorado Rockies are going through a tough year would be a gross understatement. The major league club enters Thursday in complete shambles having lost 16 of their last 20 games since Alex White and Christian Friedrich won back to back starts on June 3-4.

Rockies 11, Nationals 10(11)

Marco Scutaro's RBI single in the 11th inning gave Colorado an 11-10 victory over the Washington Nationals on Thursday after the Rockies squandered a seven-run lead. Jonathan Herrera doubled with one out off Craig Stammen (3-1). After pinch-hitter Jason Giambi walked, Dexter Fowler hit a fly ball to deep center that was caught by Bryce Harper. Herrera tagged up and took third...

Bottom of the Ninth: Rockie Mountain High

With about a month before we hit MLB’s July 31st trade deadline, let’s take a look at a few teams with closers who may be moved by that time. Colorado Rockies: At 37 years old, Rafael Betancourt clearly isn’t the long-term option for the Rockies, but he has been extremely effective since being acquired from the Indians in 2009 (this season’s excellent 2.67 FIP and 4.14 K...

Padres-Rockies Preview

The Colorado Rockies' rotation remains a work in progress, but at least the team is hitting the ball. The San Diego Padres just broke out of their brief slump in a big way. Left-hander Jeff Francis will try to help the Rockies post their first set of back-to-back victories in more than three weeks Friday night, when San Diego's Jason Marquis makes his first start in Denver...

Should the Rockies Trade Carlos Gonzalez?

Dan O’Dowd, GM of the Colorado Rockies, responded to the recent rumors that the team was shopping outfielder Carlos Gonzalez: “The Carlos Gonzalez thing is a joke,” O’Dowd said. “We’re not trading Carlos Gonzalez.” Gonzalez is a great player, but is he really worth holding onto? First off, let’s look at what Gonzalez has done: Year...
