“We have not packed it in…When you sit on the outside and watch a game like tonight, perception is they’ve packed it in.” – Terry Collins.

Well, Terry, when you make fundamental and mental errors like the team did tonight it’s plain to see this team is looking toward next season.  So, as a fan, I plan on doing the same.  There is NO WAY after I watched that horrendously executed run down in tonight’s game, that anyone can think this team is capable of competing with anyone.  That was awful. PERIOD.  Unacceptable.

I have been a Mets fan all my life, but truthfully, I’m having a hard time continuing.  I love the game of baseball and would love nothing more than to watch the Mets play GOOD BALL.  Earlier in the season, when the team was playing solid fundamental baseball, they were fun to watch.  It’s not always about winning.  Ever watch a Yankees game?  Yeah, they can hit, but when the Mets were playing well earlier in the season, I would venture a guess that any true baseball fan would have rather have watched a Mets game than a Yankees game (and all credit to the Yankees for being an excellent team).  But now that is without a doubt, NOT THE CASE.  I’d rather watch 14 kids in a row get walked in a Little League World Series game, because I’d feel like they were giving their all.  I think this Mates team has packed it in…

I was born and raised a National League fan, and National League baseball is about playing clean, hard baseball.  That’s what the Mets were doing earlier this year.  But let me say that what I saw tonight, was ANYTHING BUT clean and hard.  It was embarrassing.

I’ve hung up my hat for the season.  I will continue to watch for the progress of Matt Harvey, see what happens with Jenrry Mejia and Zack Wheeler, but only as a passer-by.  This team will not get me back out to the stadium, and probably won’t get me to watch much more than the young pitchers starts.

I’ve had enough, and apparently so has the team, as tonight’s effort was all sorts of terrible.  My heart is with this team, but I don’t know that theirs is…
