It’s been a whirlwind week for Ian Kennedy. Four days after being acquired by the Padres via a trade the right-handed pitcher Sunday afternoon found himself on the mound at Petco Park facing the New York Yankees – the team that had originally drafted him in the first round in 2006. Kennedy admitted he had “adrenaline and emotion” working for him at the start of the game. But in the sixth inning he ran out of both. “I tired at the end” admitted Kennedy. “It was a crazy week a long week.” And a successful week. Because his offense gave him a 6-0 lead early and his bullpen allowed only one run over the final 3 1/3 innings Kennedy won his debut in San Diego as the Padres defeated the Yankees 6-3 to win the rubber match of a three-game series. Kennedy allowed two runs on four hits and four walks over 5 2/3 innings. He struck out six Yankees as the Padres won a fourth straight series to improve to 11-6 over their last 17 games. Not that Kennedy was the only story: --Sunday’s third straight sellout of 43504 raised the crowd count for the three-game series against the Yankees to 131812 – meaning the Yankees first visit to Petco Park attracted the second-largest count ever for a three-day series at the 10-year-old facility. The Padres drew 133311 fans for a three-game series against the Red Sox June 22-24 2007. The Yankees hold the record for the largest three-game series ever in San Diego – 165929 from June 21-23 2002 at Qualcomm Stadium. --And Everth Cabrera was 2-for-4 with a double the two RBIs a run scored and a run-saving defensive play in what could have been his final game of the 2013 season. The shortstop is facing the possibility of drawing a 50-game suspension Monday as Major League Baseball is expected to act against players implicated in their investigation of the Florida anti-aging clinic linked to the distribution of performance-enhancing drugs in baseball.
