Andrew Cashner allowed two runs over seven innings and Logan Forsythe Jedd Gyorko and Will Venable hit solo homers Friday night as the Padres defeated the Yankees 7-2 before a sellout crowd of 44124 at Petco Park. Cashner beat the Yankees with his arm legs and glove. The right-hander held New York to seven hits and no walks scored from first on an Everth Cabrera triple and made two excellent defensive plays as the Padres defeated the Yankees in New York’s first game ever at Petco Park and their first game in San Diego since the 2002 season. Forsythe snapped a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the fourth with his fourth homer of the season on a full-count breaking ball from Yankees starter CC Sabathia. The drive landed in the second row of seats in left. The Padres made it 4-2 later in the inning when Cashner singled to the right side (Sabathia failed to cover first) and scored on Everth Cabrera’s triple to left-center – one of four hits by the beleaguered shortstop. "That was huge ...

Cedeño is set to appear in Saturday night’s game with the Storm against the Inland Empire 66ers tonight in Lake Elsinore, according to MLB.com’s...

Padres’ Carlos Quentin still dealing with knee injury

The San Diego Padres were hoping outfielder Carlos Quentin could return to their lineup for Friday’s series opener against the New York Yankees. Instead, Quentin’s ailing knee has kept the slugger out of the first two games of the series, reports Corey Brock of MLB.com. Quentin has been experiencing discomfort in his knee since last Sunday. While You Were Drinking: Game 111 (SD vs NYY)

Sometimes things get a little fuzzy after a night in the pub. Here’s a friendly reminder of what you might have missed while you were drinking. The Padres lost 3-0, as the offense died a slow death against Ivan Nova. Tyson Ross pitched well enough to win, allowing only 2 runs on just 3 hits with a career high 9 strikeouts in 6 innings. Just so happened that one of those 2 hits...

Padres sign Cedeno to minor league deal

The San Diego Padres have signed shortstop Ronny Cedeno to a minor league contract in case All-Star Everth Cabrera is suspended for 50 games by Major League Baseball as part of its investigation of the Biogenesis drug clinic. Cedeno is scheduled to be in the lineup for Double-A Lake Elsinore on Saturday night. Both general manager Josh Byrnes and manager Bud Black confirm the move...

Padres 6, Yankees 3

Ian Kennedy won his San Diego debut, his first victory in more than two months, and Everth Cabrera, facing a 50-game suspension in baseball's latest drug scandal, had two hits and two RBIS as the Padres beat the New York Yankees 6-3 on Sunday. The Padres took two of three from the Yankees, who got only 2 2-3 innings out of Phil Hughes. Kennedy was acquired from the Arizona...

Padres 7, Yankees 2

Everth Cabrera, facing a 50-game suspension in baseball's latest drug scandal, tied his career high with four hits and Logan Forsythe hit one of San Diego's three solo homers to lead the Padres to a 7-2 victory over CC Sabathia and the New York Yankees on Friday night. Cabrera, the Padres' All-Star shortstop, is among 14 players facing discipline. Monday appears to be...

Daily Friar 8.4.13

The Padres were coming off that very strong and convincing win on Friday night and were looking to jump out and clinch the series against the Yankees last night. However, that was not to be as the Yankees were able to win the game. It’s not that the Padres had a bad pitching game, it’s just that Ivan Nova was very tough against the Padres’ bats. Tyson Ross was outstanding last...

Preview: Yankees @ Padres (8/4/13)

The matinee rubber match at Petco Park has Phil Hughes (4-9, 4.58 ERA) on the mound against newly acquired Padre Ian Kennedy. Hughes was smacked around for five runs on nine hits in four innings by the Rays in a no decision. His up and down 2013 included a July in which he was 1-2 with a 3.86 ERA in five starts. Kennedy makes his first start for the Padres after joining the team...

Daily Friar 8.3.13

Well as predicted last night, the Padres broadcast (Dick Enberg) would not shut up about how great the Yankees are. The good news is that your lowly Padres were able to beat the Evil Empire in very convincing fashion. It’s always fun to show up a team that is supposedly better than you are. It’s even more fun to do it when there is a sellout crowd watching, and since it’s New...

Preview: Yankees @ Padres (8/2/13)

CC Sabathia (9-9, 4.65 ERA) hopes to rebound from his last time out against the Rays. He takes on Andrew Cashner (7-5, 3.88 ERA) at Petco Field tonight. Sabathia is scrambling for answers in the middle of a troubled stretch. He is 0-2 with a 10.93 ERA in his last three starts, having allowed 26 hits and 22 runs (17 earned) in his last 14 innings vs. the Twins, Red Sox and Rays....
