The San Diego Padres have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with outfielder Chris Denorfia and tendered contracts to 35 other players.
Already under contract are newly acquired closer Huston Street, infielders Jason Bartlett and Orlando Hudson, and outfielder Mark Kotsay.
The Padres non-tendered outfielder Jeremy Hermida.
Denorfia hit .277 with five home runs and 19 RBIs in 2011, when the Padres finished last in the NL West.
Hermida was designated for assignment on Wednesday. He was acquired off waivers from the Cincinnati Reds on August 31. He hit .225 with one homer and six RBIs in 20 games with the Padres.

Padres farm system: Deep and talented
In case you haven’t noticed, the San Diego Padres have rejuvenated the farm system. If there’s reason to be excited about the future of this franchise, the talent in the minor leagues should do the trick.
The system has been making gradual strides over the years, but it was during the Jed Hoyer/Jason McLeod regime where the biggest steps were taken, thanks to big returns for...

Denorfia agrees; 35 others tendered contracts
The Padres tendered contracts to 36 players on Monday, including several notable arbitration-eligible players. The team also agreed to a one-year deal with outfielder Chris Denorfia.
Tigers Inquired On Chase Headley
The Tigers checked with the Padres about Chase Headley, but there's no momentum in trade talks right now, sources tell Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports (via Twitter). Several other teams have reportedly shown interest in Headley this winter including the Cubs and Rockies.
The 27-year-old projects to earn $3MM through arbitration this winter and it will be his second time through...
Daily Friar 12.13.11
The contract deadline has come and passed so now we have a bigger idea of what the free agent pool looks like. There are a lot of names out there that teams would want to go after, and a lot of players that could be low risk for the Padres to try to run after too. As we approach the middle part of the month and head towards the holidays and into January we should see the Padres...
Looking for writers
We are currently looking to add contributors at Friar Forecast.
We’re hoping to provide more extensive coverage of the San Diego Padres heading into the 2012 season, and one of the best ways to do that is to add some new voices.
Preferably, we would be interested in someone with an analytical mindset and some writing/blogging experience. Any type of specific knowledge, be it...
Daily Friar 12.12.11
We are less then twelve hours away from the non tender deadline. Teams have until that time to give a contract to their arbitration eligible players. After that point if they aren't contracted then they will be released to free agency. The Padres have quite a few players who are up for arbitration. I'm sure we will know more in the coming hours what happens. And as I...
Daily Friar 12.14.11
Today is a special day for the Friarhood family. Our holiday event "Hot Stove, Warm Hearts" will be held tonight at The Tilted Kilt in downtown (right next to Petco Park). I for one am excited to be among baseball people and possibly win some great prizes and enjoy great food. Oh and Mat Latos will be there so that's pretty cool too. Here are Padres related links...
