Runs have been difficult to come by for the Arizona Diamondbacks lately, but their starting pitchers - especially Brandon McCarthy - have been on top of their game. McCarthy takes the mound Friday night when Arizona seeks its fourth victory in five tries against the visiting San Diego Padres and both teams look to avoid a third straight loss. The Diamondbacks (26-21) have scored two runs or fewer seven times while going 5-6 over the last 11 games, including Wednesday's 4-1 loss to Colorado. They went 3-3 on their road trip, scoring 12 runs over the last five. "We had three games we scored some runs and the other three we didn't at all," manager Kirk Gibson said. "It seemed like a longer road trip than it was. "I felt we didn't have as much energy as we've had in the past. It's going to happen. Time for an off day." Arizona's starters, though, posted a 2.25 ERA during the trip and have a 2.37 ERA over their last 14. The team's...

McCarthy's list of musical requests an odd one

The Diamondbacks' media relations reps, Patrick O'Connell and Casey Wilcox, recently handed out a lined sheet of paper to every player on the team with a very simple request: a list of songs to add to the stadium mix for during batting practice. Straightforward and innocuous enough, right? Well, nothing is innocuous in the hands of pitcher Brandon McCarthy, who's known...

Eaton to get second opinion; D-backs stay patient

PHOENIX -- The Diamondbacks got good news Thursday in learning that a setback in center fielder Adam Eaton's recovery from a sprained ulnar collateral ligament does not involve structural damage, but the team still wants to be sure its relief is not misplaced. Eaton said Friday he will get a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews, the renowned orthopedic surgeon who specializes...

Diamondbacks' Adam Eaton suffers setback

The Arizona Diamondbacks are in first place without him, but they'd love to have him back.  Adam Eaton was set to make his full-season debut this year, then he landed on the disabled list.  Unfortunately, his stint on the DL looks like it will continue longer than expected after he suffered a setback. #Dbacks OF Adam Eaton has returned to Phx to see doc after having soreness...

Good news: No structural damage in Eaton's elbow

PHOENIX -- Although Diamondbacks outfielder Adam Eaton received good news on his visit to the doctor on Wednesday, he likely will still miss at least another month as he recovers from a strained left elbow. Eaton was shut down earlier in the week after feeling soreness in the elbow while on a rehabilitation assignment at Class A Visalia, but team physician Dr. Michael Lee found...

The start of something big for Montero, Prado?

PHOENIX -- The only team in the major leagues not to be shut out this season, the Diamondbacks waited until the seventh inning to extend that streak in a 5-2 victory over the Padres on Friday. The way it unfolded, it was worth the wait. Miguel Montero opened the five-run seventh inning with a double, and he scored one pitch later when Martin Prado grounded a doubled inside the...

D-Backs shut down OF Eaton after setback

The Arizona Diamondbacks have ended Adam Eaton's rehabilitation stint in the minors after the young outfielder felt soreness in his injured left elbow. Eaton had been a designated hitter in the minors for the past few weeks but began playing the outfield last weekend. Manager Kirk Gibson, speaking before Arizona's game at Colorado on Wednesday, says Eaton felt discomfort...

Brandon McCarthy’s wife is rather attractive

Remember former Chicago White Sox hurler Brandon McCarthy. Who happens to be a pretty funny tweeter. Not just “funny for an athlete” or “humorous by celebrity standards,” but an actually funny guy. You can tell because even his public @replies and RTs are funny too. But wait till you see his hot model wife. Amanda McCarthy is certainly someone you want to look at. Especially...

No structural damage for Diamondbacks’ Adam Eaton

Earlier this week, the Arizona Diamondbacks announced that outfielder Adam Eaton had experienced a setback during his recovery from an elbow injury. The team released good news yesterday, reporting that Eaton is not dealing with structural damage, only irritation in his elbow. While still a setback, it doesn’t look like Eaton will require surgery – which would have...

Help is on the way for first place D-Backs

Daniel Hudson’s return will be a boost. (@DBacks, Twitter) When you look at the situation (one very good starting pitcher, a utility “glue” guy, a prototypical leadoff hitter, and arguably the team’s second best overall hitter are all out with fairly lengthy injuries) and consider this team is tied for first in the NL West, it’s pretty promising. And think of this: shortly...

D-Backs use big seventh to top Padres

The D-Backs five-run seventh inning was the difference in the series opener. (@DBacks, Twitter) For awhile, it appeared as if the struggles on offense in Colorado for the Arizona D-Backs had carried over into this game, but like a Phoenix, the Diamondbacks arose from the ashes. They defeated San Diego Padres 5-2 on Friday night. The streak of consecutive scoreless innings ended for...
