The San Diego Padres placed left-hander Clayton Richard on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left shoulder on Tuesday.
The Padres recalled reliever Luke Gregerson from Triple-A Tucson to take Richard's spot on the roster.
Richard was removed from Monday's game against San Francisco after throwing 73 pitches because of soreness in his shoulder.
Richard had won three consecutive starts and is 5-9 with a 3.88 ERA on the season.
