San Diego Padres closer Huston Street was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with a strain near his pitching shoulder. The team said Street has a strained right lat. He left Friday night's game against Miami after issuing a two-out walk in the 10th inning and was scheduled for an MRI exam Saturday. The right-hander said he didn't think it was a major injury. San Diego selected the contract of right-hander Miles Mikolas from Double-A San Antonio and transferred infielder Logan Forsythe from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day DL. Forsythe was put on the disabled list March 26 with a broken left foot. In his first season with the Padres, Street has four saves and a 0.93 ERA in 10 appearances. The 2005 AL Rookie of the Year was acquired from Colorado in a December trade. Street became the fifth Padres pitcher to land on the 15-day disabled list this season. One of them, left-hander Cory Luebke, expressed concern Saturday about his strained elbow. Luebke, who went on the disabled list Wednesday, retroactive to April 28, said the injury might be more serious than originally thought. ``It's one of those injuries where you never know when it's going to come up and bite you,'' he said. ``We still don't know what's going on. The symptoms are pointing (toward ligament damage).'' Luebke, who had an MRI on Wednesday, is 3-1 with a 2.61 ERA in five starts. All three of his wins have stopped San Diego losing streaks.

Padres' Street appears headed to disabled list with calf strain

Friday should have been remembered as a great night for the San Diego Padres. Third baseman Chase Headley homered from both sides of the plate as the Padres rallied from their biggest deficit of the season to defeat Pittsburgh 9-8 for their 10th straight win at PNC Park in Pittsburgh. But closer Huston Street pulled up lame on the game's final play as his 21st straight save...

Press Release Provided by the San Diego Padres Media Department: SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Padres today announced they have agreed to terms on a contract extension with infielder/outfielder Mark Kotsay through the 2013 season. Executive Vice President/General Manager Josh Byrnes made the announcement. “Mark provides versatility and a very good late-game at-bat,” said Byrnes...

San Diego Padres refuse to hire an angry b*itch

After 30 job application rejection letters, and a seemingly heartless invitation to purchase a $500 job fair ticket, Taylor Grey Meyer decided to write a F*ck You letter to the Padres organization that has now gone viral. Meyer, 31, lists her extensive credentials that do seem to qualify her for a position in the letter,

Daily Farm Round-Up: 8-10-12

It was a good night to be starting pitcher. Matt Palmer turned in the worst start out of all of the Padres’ minor league starters, and he allowed just 2 earned runs and pitched into the 6th. Casey Kelly continued his rehab as he shut the Springfield Cardinals down. Every minor league affiliate won tonight besides the T-Pads thanks in large part to all of the strong pitching performances...

The San Diego Padres have signed first baseman/outfielder Mark Kotsay to a one-year contract extension. Kotsay was eligible for free agency at the end of the season. The 36-year-old went into Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates hitting .275 with one home run and nine RBIs in 55 games. Kotsay has made 15 starts in left field, five in right field and two at first base...

Padres sign Kotsay to one-year extension

Mark Kotsay's veteran presence and contributions off the bench this season have convinced the San Diego Padres to sign him to one-year contract extension that will keep him in San Diego through the 2013 season, the team announced Sunday. "I enjoy my role here," Kotsay said, according to MLB.com. "Being a part of this club going forward is exciting for me, to...

The way that the Padres are playing right now has me really excited for next year. I know that is looking ahead pretty far, but if this team can stay together and be cohesive then I think there could be good things ahead. In the most recent issue of Sports Illustrated they said that the Padres have a decent chance at contending next year, and I tend to agree. Josh Byrnes is beginning...

Padres 9, Pirates 8

Chase Headley homered from both sides of the plate for the first time in his career and drove in five runs to rally the San Diego Padres to a 9-8 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday night. Headley hit a three-run home run to cap a six-run fifth inning that tied the game 7-7. His two-run blast in the seventh put San Diego ahead 9-8 after Rod Barajas had hit an RBI single...

Let's take a minute and talk about prospects. They are supposed to be the next stars of your team and help your team make it to the promise land. However, let's get one thing clear, prospects can always go either way once they hit the majors. Obviously you want your guy to be crushing it in the minors and then continue to do so in the majors. Manny Machado of the Orioles...

Game 114: Pirates 11 Padres 5

"One swing."That's what I told myself when the Padres took their 4-0 lead in the first inning today.  As I wrote earlier today, the Pirates are playing badly. I'm trying to take the long view of the season here, but they're not making it super-easy. A sweep to the Padres with Ross Ohlendorf on the mound? That'd be tough to stomach, wild card lead or no...

8/11 Recap | Padres 5 Pirates 0

The Pirates were dominated by Jason Marquis and lost their third straight game, and second straight to the Padres. Marquis was brilliant, throwing a complete game two hitter and not allowing a run while facing throwing just 106 pitches. The two Pirates hits came from Travis Snider and Pedro Alvarez, both were singles. A.J. Burnett seemed to pick the right night to have an off...

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. San Diego Padres – Game 113

I put last night’s game mostly on Hurdle.  McDonald shouldn’t have pitched in his last game, let alone this game, and you can see why.  He clearly needs to get things together, outside of the rotation.  That is 100% Clint Hurdle’s fault. Clint Hurdle should have taken McDonald out before the damage was done.  He [...]
