It's been a while since Jason Marquis won on a consistent basis. Now that he's gotten his first victory of the season for the San Diego Padres, he's hoping to build on it in a big way.
Marquis pitched three-hit ball over 7 2-3 innings for his first win of the season and Alexi Amarista tied a career high with four RBIs, leading the Padres to a 9-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday night.
''It's always nice to get the first win out of the way,'' Marquis said. ''I battled, even though the numbers don't reflect that, but my fastball command wasn't where I wanted it and I had to resort to other pitches like the slider and the split. Obviously as a team, we've been struggling all across the board, so to win these last two games at Dodger Stadium is definitely a big lift.''
Marquis (1-1) allowed his only run on Mark Ellis' bases-loaded sacrifice fly and struck out five on a chilly night in which the flags in c...
BEST OF MAXIM
Remember that time Shawn Tolleson was put in a 1-0 game in Arizona and attempted not to pour gasoline all over the mound? Well, perhaps he shat the bed for a reason.
Tolleson was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Monday and Josh Wall was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque.
Tolleson came in and promptly walked two batters, both of which allowed runs to score -- and both...
The Los Angeles Dodgers have placed left-handed starting

MLB reportedly told Carl Crawford to ditch his different colored cleats that he wore as a tribute to Jackie Robinson on Monday.
LOS ANGELES Sometimes life throws you curveballs. For Clayton Kershaw, thats been his claim to fame since making his debut with the Dodgers in 2008.
His curveball has been lethal, and some would even call it the best in the game. Kershaw had been traditionally good against the Padres. Hed won his last four decisions against the Friars and was 8-3 in his career against the them...
Tom Garfinkel was caught on tape blaming Dodgers pitcher Zack Greinke for the brawl between the teams as well as making an insulting remark about Greinke.
When Jorge Soler was a free agent, I wanted the Dodgers to go after the Cuban slugger. When he signed a 9-year, $30 million deal with the Cubs on June 11, I was a little surprised at the length of the deal, but could understand why the Dodgers didn't want give that contract duration to an unproven 19-year-old.
Then, the Dodgers ponied up $42 million for seven years of Yasiel...
If it seemed like A.J. Ellis was slow to get out and try to divert a charging Carlos Quentin, it's because he was. Ellis, not necessarily familiar with the bad blood between Zack Greinke and Quentin, had no reason to believe a seemingly innocuous hit-by-pitch to the arm would result in an all-out brawl. Not on a 3-2 count in a one-run game, at least. But it did, and...
The Dodgers get swept by the Padres, extend their losing streak to 4 games and fall under .500 for the first time since April 3.
For Jackie Robinson night, Carl Crawford did just about everything right for the Dodgers. Crawford got 3 hits. Crawford scored a run. Crawford drove in a run. The Dodgers dropped the game 6-3, but Crawford did his share to try to put the team in the win column. Jackie would’ve been disappointed by the game’s result, but I’m sure he would have been proud of Crawford’s...
