Found December 13, 2012 on Friarhood:
PLAYERS: Juan Oramas
TEAMS: San Diego Padres
Juan Pablo Oramas On November 30th, the Padres non-tendered Juan Pablo Oramas (Ranked as the #20 prospect on Friarhood.com, Ranked as the #12 prospect heading into 2012 by Baseball America).  Ten days later (12/10/12) the Padres were able to sign the 22-year old southpaw that is rehabbing from Tommy John surgery. Here is what our own Peter Friberg had to say about Oramas heading into 2012: Juan Oramas was described by outgoing Padres Scouting Director, Jason McCloud, as biggest potential to surprise in the system. Surprisingly, I actually have him ranked lower this year than I did last year. That’s a function of talent in the organization not a dip in ability with Oramas. At worst (barring injury), Oramas is a lefty out of the ‘pen. At best, he’s another #3 starter. He’s another vertically-challenged Padres pitcher with ability that exceeds his physical profile. My two cents:  It’s going to take some time for JPO to rehab, but he’s a promising young lefty that has breezed through t...

Padres Acquire LHP Chris Rearick from the Tampa Bay Rays

According to Corey Brock via twitter, the Padres have acquired LHP Chris Rearick for utility INF Vince Belnome.  Belnome a former teammate of Jedd Gyorko at West Virginia was known for his plate discipline, but with the logjam of infielders right now in the Padres system, he was unlikely to get a shot anytime soon. O'Sullivan hopes to win job with hometown Padres

Signing as a minor league free agent isn't usually a milestone worth celebrating for a player. However, right-handed pitcher Sean O'Sullivan was happier than most minor league free agents after accepting a contract from the San Diego Padres that included an invitation to spring training. O'Sullivan is a native of San Diego. He was a fan of the Padres long before he...

I've Got a Flair...for Willie Blair

The Padres recently just added Willie Blair to the coaching staff.  Now, I really don't have a "flair", but it is good to see the Padres keep ex-players in the coaching ranks.  I also love the band Fountains of Wayne, so the announcemet, for some reason, made me think of their song "I've Got A Flair".   Anyway, it also brings back fond memories of...

Daily Friar 12.12.12

Let me start off by apologizing for not having a Daily Friar for you all yesterday. Life tends to get in the way at times and thus this fell onto the back burner. Today is a new day and with it comes a new Daily Friar. It also continues the very quiet offseason that the Padres are having in that so many other teams are making headlines, and the Padres are still looking for that one...

Daily Friar 12.13.12

Yesterday was a fairly quiet day all around baseball compared to the days before with trades and whatnot. Yeah there were some signings, but most were minor, or pretty obvious that they were going to happen. For instance, Ichiro resigned with the Yankees and the Giants resigned Andres Torres. Torres was with the Giants for two years before being traded for Angel Pagan, but now he...
