The San Diego Padres have struck a deal with the Baltimore Orioles in trading catcher Nick Hundley for left-handed pitcher Troy Patton. The announcement came Saturday morning from the Padres twitter feed. Hundley will be sent along with cash considerations to Baltimore as well.
Hundley, a 30-year old veteran and 2nd round draft pick by the Padres in the 2005 MLB Amateur Player draft, has spent his entire career and the last 7 seasons in San Diego. Hundley has posted a career .238 batting average with 195 RBI and 47 Homeruns over a span of 510 games in the majors.
Hundley was part of a three-man catching regimen for the Padres, getting very limited playing time and typically appearing as a pinch-hitter in most situations. Hundley started only 9 games out of the 33 he played this season.
