The Phillies have made some sweeping changes this offseason, with one of the more notable moves being the addition of former Red Sox closer (and owner of one of the most intense faces in baseball) Jonathan Papelbon. The addition of Papelbon cluttered the closer position to the point where the Phillies closer from last year, Ryan Madson, signed a one year, $8.5 million deal with the Cincinnati Reds. The contract of Madson, who was in contract talks with Philly until late November, pales somewhat in comparison to the deal between the Phillies and Papelbon, which was a four year, $50 million contract.
The 31 year old Madson went 47-30 with a 3.59 ERA in eight seasons in Philadelphia, while in 2011 he was 4 – 2 with 2.37 ERA and converted 32 of 34 save attempts after taking over the closer role because of an injury to Brad Lidge. Madson seemed to take to the closer well last year, as he only had 20 saves in his career coming into the season

Philadelphia Phillies Have Three Prospects in Major League Baseball’s Top 100 List
The Philadelphia Phillies have three prospects in Major League Baseball’s top 100 list. Trevor May leads the group at No. 54, followed by Jesse Biddle at No. 78 and Brody Colvin at 80.
May is a single-A pitcher who excelled for the Clearwater Threshers last season, going 10-8 with a 3.63 ERA and 208 strikeouts in 151.1 innings pitched. May has three good pitches, and used them...
Wilson! A Strange Phillies Trade…
In an odd move this week, the Phillies traded my favorite utility man, Wilson Valdez, to the Reds for a minor-league pitcher. 26-year old Jeremy Horst spent most of last season with triple-A Louisville, where he posted a 1-4 record and had a 2.81 ERA in 36 games. He did make 12 relief appearances for the Reds and posted a 2.93 ERA. Horst will get an invite to Spring Training.

Jimmy Rollins Player Projection No. 77
Key Stats: Jimmy Rollins has been ranked in the top 90 five out of the last six years. Only Hanley Ramirez has been a more steady force at that position during that time. Rollins has averaged 18 home runs, 96 runs scored, 70 RBI, 34 steals, and a .271 average during that time. He’s also managed to stay healthy over that time with almost 4,000 plate appearances during that stretch...
Roy Oswalt and Cardinals number 44
As many National League fans already know, right-handed pitcher Roy Oswalt has worn the number 44 for his entire big-league career, which began with 9 ½ stellar seasons with the Houston Astros before a 2010 deadline trade to the Philadelphia Phillies.
If rumors that the 36-year-old is on the verge of signing with the St. Louis Cardinals for 2012 come to reality, the question will...

As a reminder on eligibility for the list, to be eligible the player must have...
