Former St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Corey Patterson has signed a minor league deal with the Milwaukee Brewers. In 2011, Patterson hit .239 with six home runs, 36 RBI and added in 13 stolen bases. After joining the Cardinals in August, he played in 44 games, while only managing a .157 batting average, while serving as a fourth or fifth outfielder much of the time. Brewers mark the sixth franchise that Patterson will pursue in his career. The 32-year-old outfielder will go to spring training and compete for a spot on the team that has a tough outfield rotation to crack with Carlos Gomez & recent Japanese signing Norichika Aoki being inked into outfield spots. The potential loss of Ryan Braun for the beginning of the season, due to a potential steroid-based suspension, could open a chance for him to make the big league club. Milwaukee is the Patterson’s fourth club within the National League Central, and second trip with the Brewers. After being drafted and debuting with the Chic...

St. Louis Cardinals open virtual museum

As regular readers know, I have been a vocal critic of the St. Louis Cardinals for closing their museum back in 2008 and keeping it closed indefinitely. Since it may be some time (Phase 1 of Ballpark Village) until it re-opens, the club has invested in a virtual museum experience. The new website, www.cardinals.com/museum, has been launched today, January 30, with the goal of highlighting...

Cardinals' Rally Squirrel Gets Baseball Card, Upstaging Skip Schumaker Once Again (Photo)

Cardinals outfielder Skip Schumaker's connection to the Rally Squirrel in St. Louis is going to last forever. Or, at least as long as few small pieces of cardboard hold up. MLB.com points out that Schumaker's 2012 Topps baseball card will feature just his right foot. The rest of the card is reserved for one pesky squirrel who became a national celebrity during last year&...

Ship McClellan To The Padres

It does seem odd that the St. Louis Cardinals are willing to send do-everything pitcher Kyle McClellan somewhere else.  He’s a local boy.  He moved through the ranks as a starting pitcher but willingly switched to the bullpen to help the big club, becoming a dependable late-innings guy.  Last season, after Adam Wainwright went down, he willingly switched back to the rotation...

First Bernie, Then Beltran

With Carlos Beltran leaving the Mets via trade and then signing with the Cardinals, there appears to be a lot of nostalgia going around about his career. In fact, it seems lately that Carlos Beltran and “Hall of Fame,” have been seen together in several discussions with Mets fans. Personally, I think the Hall of Fame is getting a bit too watered down. I love that a guy like Ron...

Roy Oswalt must deliver right answers to join Rangers

The team wonders about Roy Oswalt's commitment as it meets with the pitcher today.

Plan 9 from Kenmore Square

According to the latest rumors, Roy Oswalt is likely to end up in St. Louis. Edwin Jackson has "multiple" three-year offers, but may accept a one-year deal to see what his market is for next year. (Which puzzles me a bit, actually. Why not the bird in the hand?) The Sox are still mentioned as a possible one-year destination for Jackson. We're past plan B, and probably...

Top 50 Prospects: #4 – Shelby Miller

#4 Shelby Miller St. Louis Cardinals DOB: 10/10/1990 Previous Rank: 16 ETA: 2012 Aside from a team-issued suspension for being an idiot, Shelby Miller had an outstanding 2011 that only served to reinforce his spot as the top righty in the Minor Leagues.  He posted a 2.77 ERA in 25 starts across two levels including his final stop in Springfield where he collected 16 Double-A starts...

Balpark Village: A Failure Slowly Revealed

Ballpark Village. It's been a whipping post for this site since our inception and as the Cardinals admission of failure slowplay moves towards it's ultimate cresendo, another tasteful admission of failure has been launched. It's called the St. Louis Cardinals Virtual Hall Of Fame.A well constructed web site worth lauding. You know, if it had an accompanying Hall Of Fame...

Roy Oswalt and the Rangers

This post is quite a bit shorter than our normal fare here. We’re going to experiment with some quicker news analysis pieces for things that are still churning through the rumor mill. Don’t worry, these pieces won’t take the place of the more in-depth articles you’ve come to expect from the site. A few weeks ago, I talked about how Roy Oswalt could end up...

BaseballHQ on Cardinals Prospects: 2012

In the first of a three-part series, we highlight the top 15 St. Louis Cardinals prospects from the Minor League Baseball Analyst with the details as to why they’re ranked where they are.

Source: Oswalt will meet with Rangers Monday

The Rangers are scheduled to meet with free agent right-handed starter Roy Oswalt on Monday, a source confirmed Sunday afternoon.

Oswalt not short on suitors for his services

Roy Oswalt has been in the top six in the National League Cy Young Award balloting six times. If you need a guy for Game 7 in a World Series, you could do a whole lot worse than the man from Mississippi.
