2012 season preview: Minnesota Twins

Nothing that could have went right for the 2011 Minnesota Twins really did. The lowlights of this awful season were their two star players, Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau, each missing a huge chunk of time. No matter what happens in 2012 for the Twins, it'll pretty much depend on Mauer and Morneau to stay healthy. If they can each player in 130-140 games, the Twins could be much...

Carroll takes turn as Twins starting shortstop

PROJECTED STARTER Jamey Carroll, .290 BA, 17 RBIs, 10 steals, 52 runs in 2011 Carroll might be 38 years old, but the Twins are counting on him to hold down the every-day shortstop role this season. Signed as a free agent this winter, Carroll will be entering his 11th year in the majors. Despite his age, Carroll still played a career-high 146 games last season with the Los Angeles...

Buck Showalter meets his Waterloo

No one can exactly determine the benefit or harm a baseball manager brings to his team. The oft-trotted out discourses are the chemistry, organization, inspiration sides of what a manager does. But how to you measure that? You can't. Fairly or unfairly, a manager is judged by the bottom line of wins and losses. If his team wins, the manager gets to hang around. If it loses, he...

2012 Fantasy Baseball Player Profile: Ryan Doumit

Author: Andrew SwansonOpening day 2012 will be an interesting time for Ryan Doumit as it will be his first opening day in anything other than a Pirate uniform. After seven up and down seasons with the Bucs, Doumit signed a 3-year deal to become the designated hitter for the Twins. Doumit joined the Pirates organization as a second round draft pick in the 1999 amateur draft, and spent...

Tsuyoshi Nishioka Sucks, Is Asian, Tom Powers Makes Fun Of Him With Haiku LOLOL

Tom Powers, who apparently has a history of being an idiot, decided to make recently demoted Tsuyoshi Nishioka his punching bag recently. Of course, that would be completely fine, as Nishioka’s been a terrible player for the Minnesota Twins thus far and deserves to be criticized. However, what irked me was the direction in which

Twins are back to underdogs again in 2012

For years the Minnesota Twins have been baseball's darlings, defying economics and exceeding expectations to pile up division championships. Oh, how things can change in a year. After the most disappointing season in franchise history - a 63-99 injury-filled embarrassment - the Twins are back to the role they're used to playing. They're the underdogs again, only this...

Marketing Mark Reynolds

The Orioles are reportedly looking to trade “third baseman” Mark Reynolds and reliever Kevin Gregg. You think so, doctor? It would be strange if the team really waited until this late to start shopping these two veterans, who are rather pointless on a team that is at the beginning of what looks to be a long rebuilding process. To be fair, while the rumor is just coming out now...

Britton Still Ailing; Matusz

Anytime a player hears their name and Dr. James Andrews in the same sentence, it is never a good thing. Yesterday, the Orioles announced that pitcher Zach Britton will be visiting the renowned sports doctor to have his shoulder looked at. From the Orioles.com: Orioles left-hander Zach Britton continues to deal with left shoulder inflammation, the latest case likely costing the...

Orioles 6, Red Sox 5

Buchholz gave up seven hits and walked...

Yankees 6, Twins 4

Francisco Liriano gave up four hits over five shutout innings in the Minnesota Twins' 6-4 loss to a New York Yankees split squad on Friday. Coming off five hitless innings against Pittsburgh last Sunday, Liriano struck out five and walked one. Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter had a hit and made a nice defensive play in his return from a stiff left calf. The team captain didn&...

Baltimore Orioles Latest Team to Hope for Dontrelle Willis Resurgence

The Baltimore Orioles are hoping to do something that the Detroit Tigers, Arizona Diamondbacks, Cincinnati Reds and Philadelphia Phillies could not do over the past four years. The Orioles have signed pitcher Dontrelle Willis in hopes that they can resurrect his career. They should not be holding their collective breathes. Willis, the former 22 game winner with the Florida...

About Yesterday; Chen...

Yesterday, the Baltimore Orioles demolished the Minnesota Twins, 11-1, in Grapefruit League action. The story of the day was the pitching of Wei-Yin Chen.
