A no-decision with very little run support? It could only be a Jake Peavy start for the Chicago White Sox. And very likely the last one he makes in that uniform. Peavy went eight innings Tuesday in Chicago's eventual 4-3, 12-inning loss to the Cleveland Indians, and he allowed three runs on three hits. Bigger picture? The free-agent-to-be showed this season that all the health concerns surrounding him were in the past, going 11-12 with a 3.37 ERA in 219 innings, which was a team high. It was also the most innings he's clocked since 2007, when he went 223 1/3. With Peavy likely headed elsewhere, the rotation will take on a very different look, with possibly four left-handers. Chris Sale is a staff ace, John Danks is expected back from season-ending shoulder surgery, Jose Quintana showed a lot in his rookie season, and Hector Santiago has put himself into position to be a leading candidate to start. Gavin Floyd, who also has a $9.5 million club option for next season, ...

White Sox move on after AL Central run falls short

The Chicago White Sox made a surprising run at a division title. Now, big changes could be in store. They might be saying goodbye to Jake Peavy and A.J. Pierzynski, and the front office could be in for some shuffling, too. That explains that feeling of finality as the White Sox lost their grip on the AL Central lead and ultimately finished three games behind Detroit in the division...

End of Season Post-Mortem: Chicago White Sox

They scraped, and they clawed, and they battled, but at the end of the day, the Chicago White Sox fell short in their bid to win the AL Central, even after an 11-0 thrashing of the Indians on Monday night. A 2-10 stretch prior to that win did them in, and I bet a lot of White Sox fans, players, and other personnel are wondering what could have happened if some of that offense from...

White Sox's Youkilis unsure of future

Kevin Youkilis says he enjoyed his time with the Chicago White Sox, and that his family will come first in a deciding where he plays next season. Set to become a free agent, the 33-year-old third baseman hit .236 with 15 homers and 46 RBIs in 80 games for the White Sox after being acquired from Boston on June 25. Youkilis said Wednesday before the season finale against the Cleveland...

Blowout win is too little, too late for White Sox

The hope for the Chicago White Sox players was they wouldn't have to start talking about tough decisions the organization has to make this winter or the current roster being broken up until late October -- not on the first night of the month. However, even though the Sox finally won, pounding the Cleveland Indians 11-0, they were eliminated from playoff contention when the...

White Sox 11, Indians 0

Rookie Hector Santiago allowed just one hit in seven shutout innings as the Chicago White Sox kept their slim playoff hopes alive - for the moment - with an 11-0 win over the Cleveland Indians on Monday night. Santiago (4-1), who began the season as Chicago's closer, struck out a season-high 10. The Indians' only hit off the left-hander was Shin-Soo Choo's two-out single...

White Sox 9, Indians 0

Dan Johnson hit his first three homers of the season and Chicago added two more in the game as the White Sox routed the Cleveland Indians 9-0 on Wednesday night. Gavin Floyd (12-11) gave up three hits over seven innings. He struck out six, one short of getting 145 strikeouts for the fifth straight season despite being on the disabled list twice this year. Johnson hit two two-run...

Report: Marlins 'Aggressively Seeking' Replacement for Ozzie Guillen

Ozzie Guillen was supposed to be the straw that stirred the drink. Instead, the only thing Guillen stirred up in his first season in Miami was controversy, and that could have the Marlins skipper soon headed for the unemployment line. ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Marlins are "aggressively seeking" a replacement for Guillen, although no decision has yet been...

Box Score: White Sox 11, Indians 0

While the White Sox claimed a big victory today, the Indians already had knocked Chicago out of playoff contention last week. Detroit’s Monday night victory clinched the AL Central for the Tigers, accomplishing an impressive September comeback to win the worst division in baseball. And, oh yeah, the Indians lost badly on Monday. They managed just two hits and one walk while striking...

Pitchers’ Duel Crumbles Into Chicago Slugfest

I’ve had the pleasure 1 of recapping several of Corey Kluber’s starts this season. For nearly six innings tonight, it was his best start of the season by far as he held the potent White Sox offense in check. But, those pesky pale hosers broke through with two outs in the sixth and struck for four runs. The Tribe had no answer for that, mustering just two hits of their own, as...

Indians shut out by White Sox

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Rookie Hector Santiago allowed just one hit in seven shutout innings as the Chicago White Sox kept their slim playoff hopes alive -- for the moment -- with an 11-0 win over the Cleveland Indians on Monday night. Santiago (4-1), who began the season as Chicago's closer, struck out a season-high 10. The Indians' only hit off the left-hander was Shin-Soo Choo...

Indians shut out by White Sox in finale

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Dan Johnson hit his first three homers of the season and Chicago added two more in the game as the White Sox routed the Cleveland Indians 9-0 on Wednesday night. Gavin Floyd (12-11) gave up three hits over seven innings. He struck out six, one short of getting 145 strikeouts for the fifth straight season despite being on the disabled list twice this year. Box Score: White Sox 9, Indians 0

The Indians (68-94) season has come to a woeful, merciless end. In a game as fitting as possible for this entire season, the White Sox (85-77) poured on 16 hits, led by three homers from backup first baseman Dan Johnson (his first HRs of the season), in a complete thrashing of the Tribe. The next time you see Cleveland baseball, there likely will be plenty of changes to the lineup...
