The Red Sox announced on Friday that they have traded infielder Pedro Ciriaco to the Padres for a player to be named later or cash considerations. Ciriaco, who had been struggling this year after a promising debut season with the Red Sox in 2012, was designated for assignment on Monday. In 28 games this season, he batted .216 with two doubles, one triple, one home run and four RBIs, a far cry from his 2012 output of .293, 15 doubles, 19 RBIs and 16 stolen bases in 76 games. The 27-year-old Dominican native, who signed with the Diamondbacks as an amateur free agent in 2003, signed with the Sox on Dec. 15, 2011, after a brief two-year stint with the Pirates. For his career, he is batting .287 with three home runs, 30 RBIs and 20 stolen bases in 135 games. The Red Sox also announced on Friday that they have recalled right-handed pitcher Rubby De La Rosa from Triple-A Pawtucket. Right-handed pitcher Alex Wilson was optioned back to Pawtucket last night to make room for De La Rosa on the 25-man roster. This will be De La Rosa’s first major league stint with the Red Sox. The 24-year-old, who was acquired by the Red Sox in last summer’s blockbuster trade that sent Josh Beckett, Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford, Nick Punto and cash considerations to the Dodgers, has been impressive for Pawtucket this season. He leads the team with a 3.29 ERA and .188 opponent average, and in his last eight outings dating back to April 23, he’s posted a 1.14 ERA. De La Rosa will be available for Friday’s game against the Orioles and will wear No. 62.
