The Philadelphia Inquirer reports the Phillies will start righthander Pedro Martinez in Game 2 of the NLCS. In addition, righthander Brett Myers has been left off the Phillies' NLCS roster.
Martinez was scheduled to pitch Game 3 of the NLDS before cold weather postponed the game. When the game was made up the following day, rookie lefthander J.A. Happ made the start instead. Martinez, who went 5-1 with a 3.63 ERA in nine starts for the Phillies this season, hasn't pitched since Sept. 30.
"He's did enough work that I'm confident sending him out," manager Charlie Manuel told the newspaper. "I think he is capable of throwing anywhere from 75-90 pitches, maybe 95, maybe even 100. But I think that gets us into the sixth inning or the seventh, and I think that where we're at with out pitching and everything, that would work."
As a result of Martinez starting Game 2, Happ and righthander Joe Blanton ...
