Mike Pelfrey, Manny Acosta, Ramon Ramirez, and Andres Torres all filed for arbitration before the midnight deadline last night. Pelfrey earned $3.925 million, Torres earned $2.2 million and Ramirez earned $1.65 million in 2011. They are all expected to get significant raises for the upcoming season. Tuesday is the deadline for teams and players to exchange salary arbitration figures. If both parties cannot settle on a contract, they will go to a hearing in February where an arbitrator will decide between the two salary offers exchanged by both sides. Pelfrey went 7-13 with a 4.74 ERA in 33 starts last season. Acosta went 4-1 with a 3.45 ERA in 44 appearances. Ramirez went 3-3 with a 2.62 ERA in 66 appearances last season with the San Francisco Giants. Torres hit .221 with 24 doubles, one triple, four home runs, 19 RBIs, 19 stolen bases and a .643 on-base-plus-slugging percentage also with the San Francisco Giants.

Fred Wilpon Requests That You To Give His Team "A Try"

The forecast for this upcoming season is a dreary one for the New York Mets, but that hasn't stopped Mets' owner Fred Wilpon from providing his two cents to the Mets' fanbase. Yes, in his first really public comments since calling his own team snake bitten and criticizing the value of his now departed leadoff man, Mr. Wilpon had the following to say:"I think we...

As Mets Plummet, Dickey Reaches Summit

As the Mets off season appears to be on crash course with obscurity, Mets starting pitcher RA Dickey has reached the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. In ignoring Mets threats and requests that Dickey cancel his fund-raising trip to Africa, Dickey, Mets bullpen catcher Dave Racainiello, and Rockies pitcher Kevin Slowey reached the top of Mount Kilimanjaro. The trip was planned last off-season to raise

Jon Niese, his physical & mental breakdowns, & 2012

Jon Niese went 11-11 with a 4.40 ERA in 27 games and 26 starts last year, allowing 178 hits and 44 walks while striking out 138 in 157 1/3 innings. He went 8-7 with a 3.88 ERA in 19 games and 18 starts in the first half, but he went just 3-4 with a 5.67 ERA in eight second half starts before injuring a side muscle in August and missing the remainder of the season. In his career,...

Who leads off if Torres is more '12' then '11'...

Photo by Michael BaronOver the last seven seasons the Mets have had Jose Reyes and his .341 lifetime OBP leading off.  Since 2005 Reyes played in at least 126 games or more aside from his basically lost 2009 season in which he only appeared in 36 games.   Injury reasons aside the Mets will enter the season with a new lead-off man for the first time in many years.  Terry Collins...

VIDEO: Only You (And Your Pennies) Can Help Stop Mets Cruelty

The only thing sadder than watching the Mets’ failings of the past few years is watching those failings set to the music of Sarah McLachlan. The Canadian songstress’ haunting, melodic voice is almost enough to make me want to help these sadsack New York Mets by donating my hard earned money to their cause. Notice I said almost. I say instead of donating the money to the Mets...

Get to Know a Mets Minor League Player: Jeremy Hefner

Depending on the health of the Mets 2012 rotation, Jeremy Hefner could be a name you hear a lot of. Hefner, who will be 26, was claimed by the Mets this offseason, and his history of Major League squads tells an interesting story about the Mets: Drafted by the Mets, round 46, 2004 Drafted by the Mets, round 48, 2005 Drafted by the Padres, round 5, 2007 Claimed by the Pirates, November...

If We Are Rebuilding, Why Is R.A. Dickey Still Here In A Sellers Market?

Michael Baron of MetsBlog wrote the following this morning regarding the Mets projected starting rotation: According to FanGraphs, Bill James predicts Gee will go 8-10 with a 4.33 ERA in 160 innings, Niese will go 9-10 with a 4.28 ERA in 160 innings, Dickey will go 12-11 with a 3.89 ERA, Pelfrey will go 9-11 with a 4.36 ERA in 188 innings, and Santana will go 14-7 with a 3.10 ERA...

What now for Bobby Parnell?

Last week, the Mets announced the signings of Jon Rauch and Frank Francisco and during the Winter Meetings, they acquired Ramon Ramirez along with Andres Torres in exchange for Angel Pagan. Last month, Alderson said it will be up to Terry Collins how he uses his new bullpen acquisitions but said, ‘There will be a soft hierarchy.” According a major league source, ”The Mets...

Mets Jambalinka: Kevin Mitchell, Aaron Heilman and Bud Selig

We like to try different things here at Mets360. Now some of these work out great, like Card of the Week, Mets Minors and Mets Notes did for us last year. Some don’t work out so well and we stop doing them and move on to other things. So, starting this week we’re going to try a links column. It’s always a tricky thing doing a links column, as you’re inviting your readers...

Video; One to watch Urbina

I noticed at Fansided Seedlings to Stars that Juan Urbina made their list of snubs from the top 100 list.  The young lefty seems to be getting a lot of buzz lately, while the numbers aren't there yet scouts seem to love his raw stuff.  Here's an excellent scouting report of him from Scouting the Sally and an interview from Mets minor league ball. The Mets are thin from...

Rising Apple: What must go wrong in NL East for Mets to contend?

Twinkies were fine, but the cards were better

I confess there was some sadness when I learned this week that Hostess was filing for bankruptcy. It's not a love for Twinkies, you understand. I haven't enjoyed one in years. But from 1975 to 1979, I'd rush to the Twinkies section of Dan's Supreme and Pathmark to turn over box after box, scanning the bottom for elusive Mets. There were cards issued in 1993, too, but...

Reaching the Summit of Kilimanjaro

Despite nausea and lightheadedness, Mets pitcher R. A. Dickey and his party give hugs and high-fives above the clouds at the highest point in Africa.
