Philadelphia Phillies ace Roy Halladay will have arthroscopic surgery to repair a bone spur in his right shoulder. Halladay was put on the disabled list this week with inflammation in his shoulder, but met with specialist Dr. Lewis Yocum in Los Angeles on Tuesday. After that meeting, Halladay decided to undergo surgery immediately, to give him a chance to return this year. So far this season the two-time Cy Young Award winner is 2-4 with an 8.65 ERA in seven starts. In 34.1 innings he has allowed 33 runs (all earned) on 33 hits, with 17 walks and 35 strikeouts. He currently carries a WHIP of 1.46 and a WAR of -1.1. Clearly something has been wrong with Halladay all season and most figured some kind of surgery would be necessary. The problem is, he continues to break down. He missed almost two months last season because of a badly strained back muscle. Halladay is 35 years old and at this point in his career he couldn’t afford to struggle along and play through an injury. He is owed $20 million this season and the Phillies hold a $20 million option on him for next season that they are almost certain to turn down. *Originally posted on Rumors and Rants The post Philadelphia Phillies: Roy Halladay to have shoulder surgery appeared first on Midwest Sports Fans.
