From the rumormongers, there is the tantalizing name on the Philadelphia Phillies of Cliff Lee. How many future stars will he net this time? TAL’S HANDY CAPS:  POLL WELCOME, NEWCOMERS: This is my 14th poll and I will hone them over time, like my other postings. If you’re interested in checking out something different, my storyline articles–by design–represent a baseball man’s thinking, the view from the dugout and the GM’s box. Please go to my author archives or the Phillies page for my most recent coverage. Scroll down to Tal’s Handy Links at the bottom. Thank you. Check out:  Philadelphia Phillies storyline: Destination revisited The new summer schedule will allow me to publish the best 2-3 storylines each week, but there will be an updated calendar included with each feature:  These posts involve commentary, polls and stats for the upcoming 7 days. Post time is mostly 5 to 9 pm for the days listed below. May 6 to May 12 A wild-card feature will be published at times. Any schedule changes and holdups will be posted at Tal’s Handy Caps on Facebook. The speculation at the trading deadline is never enjoyable for the losing team. It’s difficult when the vultures circle above your also-ran favorites, like Scott Rolen and Curt Schilling. There was little hope for the playoffs in April at that time, and then there was the dread of bidding farewell to your best players. It meant that the following season would offer less to root for. Hamels Dials up a 2-seam Fastball during the 1st at the Bank on May 4 against the Marlins. There are other unpleasant aspects, like pitch counts due to money’s influence. The limit on the number of bullets doesn’t bother me, because it’s a futile attempt to control nature. The mound legends with their 300-inning campaigns think that is normal, and it was for them. Ten people in the same room will feel ten different ways from hot to cold, which means every hurler has a different endurance limit on his arm without a method for measurement. Then, there are injury reports that confound the faithful. Some start as minor issues and become 2-month stays on the 15-day DL. On the other hand, there are the flu-like symptoms of one-size-fits-all. Sometimes, it’s the last-minute scratch that turns into a week. Utley Records the 1st of 27 Outs at the Bank on May 3 against the Marlins. In 2012, it was brutal with the swaps of Hunter Pence, Shane Victorino, Jim Thome and Joe Blanton. After the break the squad needed 2 weeks to get reacclimated, which was near the end of July. There was no way that Cole Hamels or a fire sale was about to occur, but that didn’t keep contending organizations from salivating over our aces. That said, the 2013 budget dictated the deals, which softened the blow for me. The red pinstripes had half of their major pieces on the shelf last summer, which produced a .500 record. However, they are healthy now and experiencing their new physical boundaries, which indicates a decent postseason ahead. That stated, I have found a new bitter reality for this 162: Rumors in late April will become fantastic trades around July 31. Lee, Chase Utley, Roy Halladay, Jonathan Papelbon, Mike Adams, Michael Young, Delmon Young and Jimmy Rollins are on the menu for fans from other cities to picture in their dugout. When the Phils are 4 games out on May 5, I don’t want to read about unloading Lee.   What pushes you the most over the edge? You can only select one. Lee Fires a 2-seam Fastball during the 1st on May 1 in Cleveland.
