PHILADELPHIA — On the left side of Wen-Hui Pan‘s neck, the right-hander pitcher has a tattoo that reads “PERSEVERE” in vertical English letters. The native of Taiwan got it last year, after he underwent Tommy John surgery, one of three different surgeries he’d had in his young career.
