Roy Oswalt last donned the uniform of the Philadelphia Phillies.  However, the usual suspects are cost cutting.  Most GM’s are willing to only lavish a select few with big bucks.  Roy is not in that group. TAL'S HANDY CAPS
WELCOME, NEWCOMERS: I will publish after every battle that is not washed out. The Phillies finished last summer 42 games over .500, which equaled a year of many positives. I will have many season-long highlights of puzzle pieces, especially important after drubbings and defeats. Check out  Philadelphia Phillies storyline: The other Phillies SPECIAL REQUEST: If you were directed here by a feed and this review does not mention yesterday’s contest, please go to my author archives or Phillies page for my most recent coverage. (Early morning readers may arrive before the latest post.) Scroll down to Tal’s Handy Links at the bottom. Thank you. Big John Hauls In A 6th-Inning Flare Over The Shoulder NITECAP INSIGHT The Wizard Series: This is the fill-in article when Mac approves my ERA presentation slightly over the review. One gets exposure and the other comes in 2nd. Today, I reversed the order to trick my tormentor. These write-ups will track Os in his MLB return. Signs Of The Times For Josh Beckett Rube Amaro is just doing the Pat Gillick method of GM’ing, which is to check everything out. At this time, Vance Worley will toil through bone chips, which will include soreness. Cole Hamels did that for most of 2011. If the Vanimal has difficulty, Kyle Kendrick will slot in behind Joe Blanton. Kentucky Joe is healthy and having a career year, which is due to his change of speeds. The pointers from the aces have paid off, which means Rube is comfortable with him as the postseason 4. That was not the case in 2010. The bullpen is adequate when they are injury free. Jose Contreras and Antonio Bastardo are reacquiring their mojos, Chad Qualls is better behind them, and Jake Diekman is the lefty specialist for now. The balance of the ’pen will produce 1 or 2 (without Kendrick) from Raul Valdes, Mike Stutes, David Herndon, Justin De Fratus and Joe Savery. Unlike Big Joe with his elbow, the Wizard of Os hasn’t proven that his back won’t be an issue. That said, Amaro needs a stick unless he already has one:  Chooch Ruiz, John Mayberry Jr. or both. Big John is sound enough but his crouched stance eliminates some of his homerun power. Chooch, on the other hand, won’t be as strong in August and September, because catching takes its toll physically. Pete Orr Slides Home For The 8th-Inning Tally Blanton is in his walk season, Kendrick is his replacement, because that’s the only way to afford the 3 number ones next summer. Amaro could deal Blanton for a bat and re-sign Oswalt to a 3-month agreement. Rube has $5M for the trading deadline, which could go to Little Roy. The new leftfielder would have to be priced at Blanton money or $4M AAV (average annual value) for the duration of the campaign. The wild card here is what team, and at what bargain dollars, would the Wizard command? $5M though worth it might be overpaying. Kyle Kendrick Stops The Cubs On May 16 At Wrigley Field PRECAP PITCH Kyle Kendrick: Both hurlers will again be among the match-ups for round 2 at the Bank.  Kendrick is more comfortable with starting, and he could finally work into the 7th this time around.  He is 0-2 with a 4.95 ERA without the relief appearances.  His ledger in Washington was:  5 INN, 7 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 2 K & 85 sinkers. Get Ready to Resume the Roy Oswalt MLB Return Watch Once Again

This past offseason, free agent starting pitcher Roy Oswalt was in high demand. Not only was he one of the more reliable and consistent free agents on the market, he was one of the few who could have an impact on a playoff team’s rotation immediately. He appeared destined to make his decision as to which team he would be bringing his talents to in 2012. Then, he appeared...

Worley Sees Dr. Andrews; Rollins Out of Lineup

Vance is seeing Dr. Andrews. (AP)-Three words you never want to hear if you’re a pitcher: Dr. James Andrews. Vance Worley is hearing those words today as he sees the infamous doctor to get a better sense of why he’s having elbow pain. Ruben Amaro gave that update today, but did not have any results from the appointment as of roughly 4:30 pm. Results from an MRI showed a bone...

Phillies' Vance Worley Has Bone Chips in Throwing Arm

The diagnosis is in for Vance Worley, on the DL with arm soreness.  Worley has bone chips in his throwing arm, reports Matt Gelb of the Inquirer. The bone chips look like this: Okay, maybe not like that. But, the news is somewhat good as this is something people can pitch through, though with some soreness.  Gelb's piece mentions that Cole Hamels had them last year and...

Bryce Harper Hoping Phillies Fans Won't Be Throwing Batteries at Him in First Trip to Philadelphia

Bryce Harper is already at the center of the bad blood that is brewing between his Nationals and the Phillies. Harper made news last week just by taking a Cole Hamels fastball to the back in his first at-bat against the veteran left-hander. Hamels took the situation to the next level after the game when he admitted to intentionally plunking Harper. Everyone and their brother had...

Week In Review – Winning Is Fun, While It Lasts

Winning is great.  The Phillies know how to win.  The fans know what it’s like to feel like winners.  And boy did this team remind us of better days this week.  Yes, the Phillies are struggling right now and, yes, they are sitting in last place but there is still hope for this team. They showed it this week reeling off a six game win streak before dropping two of three in interleague...

Yes, The Phillies Lie About Injuries, So What?

The ballpark remains packed. Vance Worley is on the DL, and we now know he has bone chips in his elbow. Could be one, could be many. Could be bad, maybe not though. What's funny is, the day before his last scheduled start, he was still going to throw, right up until that game ended. Then he went to the DL the next day, not just missing a turn. Now, we find out this. We...

Blanton Bombs Against Red Sox

Now that Phillies fans have all gotten used to seeing Joe Blanton in top form, I suppose he was due to throw a clunker. Blanton had only given up 2 home runs all year, but last night, he gave up 4 in just one game against the Red Sox. By the middle of the 4th inning, the score was 5-1 and Blanton had also already made two huge fielding errors in the game. Clearly, this was not his...

Lee Falters, Phillies Can’t Catch Up

Hey Ryan, please come back soon. Please. The Boston Red Sox continued to use Citizens Bank Park as their personal home run derby today in the rubber match.  They jumped out to a 5-0 lead on the backs of Jarrod Saltalamacchia‘s three run shot in the third inning.  Mike Aviles lead off the game with a home run for the second straight game.  He has homered in every game this...

The Phillies Bring Back Pat Burrell...Hilarity Ensues

You're never going to see Pat Burrell get his day in Cooperstown, but, thankfully, that didn't stop the Philadelphia Phillies from bringing back the fan favorite for one more game.Saturday, "Pat the Bat" was back in uniform and retired as a member of the Phillies."It doesn’t seem that long ago, really, that it started," the 35-year-old said. Phillies Drop Fourth Straight to Nationals, 5-2

Just another one of those games in which you'd rather throw your tv out of the window than have to watch Roy Halladay suffer another loss. Charlie Manuel posted his 80,000th lineup of the season... It wasn't one we'll be seeing in more games down the stretch.  Hector Luna, tonight's first baseman, hit a ground rule double in the bottom of the second, scoring Hunter...
