Cole Hamels is the top priority for the Philadelphia Phillies.  And Rube Amaro has done his due diligence to re-up the core of this champion.  Do you ink Jimmy Rollins with your stud lefty in his walk year?

I will publish after every battle that is not washed out.  I will have many season-long highlights of puzzle pieces, especially important after drubbings and defeats.  If you were directed here by a feed and this review does not mention yesterday’s contest, please go to the Phillies page for my most recent coverage. (Early morning readers may arrive before the latest post.) Scroll down to Tal’s Handy Links at the bottom. Thank you.

Vic Delivers A Solid Catch In The 7th For The 2nd Out With Cole At 109 Pitches

The After:

Despite the fact that the club is among the sellers in the standings, I would be surprised by a trade of King Cole. When you figure 8 games behind the second wild-card spot as the boundary, there are 7 organizations on the wrong side. The red pinstripes are at the 8.5 mark, which is in front of only 6 other franchises. They are: Minnesota (9.5 out), Seattle (10.5), San Diego (12), Houston (13), the Cubs (13.5) and Colorado (13.5). The GM may deal Shane Victorino, Joe Blanton, Polly Polanco or Hunter Pence, but not the young southpaw.

Hunter Bangs An RBI Single In The 4th

The driving force behind a team with the framework for more than one title is rooted in central characters who have experienced many losing summers together. They are mostly farm-system products, because the club had early draft picks due to numerous abysmal campaigns. Hamels, Rollins, Chase Utley and Ryan Howard are the heart of the beast. These are the stars at the beginning of the line for the paymaster’s window. J-Roll’s new contract and Ryno’s deal indicate the mechanism in place for Cole to remain a Phillie.

It Is Also A Game Of Quarter Seconds

Consider the competition for the 2 wild cards, which is led by New York and San Francisco. The Mets have a porous defense with a weak bullpen, and they are looking for another closer. Tim Lincecum lost his fastball last year and he can no longer get by on his reputation. Atlanta has pitching problems and their sticks mostly have to carry them, which is why they are streaky. The Fish just bartered for more firepower and their hammer has been iffy. The Reds, Cards and Bucs will beat each other.

Utley is better than last season, Howard is ready to make an impact, and Doc Halladay will probably start the 5th contest after the break.  Then, there is the lineup for this entire weekend:  Rollins (1), Juan Pierre (2), Utley (3), Howard (4), Chooch Ruiz (5), Pence (6), Victorino (7)–who hits the Braves–and Polanco (8).  There is no doubt in my mind that the bats, gloves, and most of the arms are strong.  The only exception is for the 7th and 8th innings.  If the brain trust can nurture Antonio Bastardo, their biggest need will be a decent reliever for the backend.  It’s been a difficult first half, this squad has been declared dead before, but they still have 78 battles ahead of them with 3 fresh warriors.

Kyle Kendrick Loads Up A Fastball At The Bank On June 26 Against The Pirates

Kyle Kendrick:

He could be back in the ‘pen after this appearance, because Doc is scheduled to rehab during the break. As a result, Kyle may turn in a strong performance.  He was held back to face Atlanta because of his past success against them.  He has worked 6.1 frames or more in 4 of 12 efforts with 5 monstrosities.

Tim Hudson Delivers At The Ted On July 1 Against The Nationals

Tim Hudson:

He is not having a dominant tour after returning from his surgery, and it might remain that way through 2012, which is a fairly common recovery.  He has lasted 6.2 innings plus in 6 of 12 attempts with 4 clunkers.  However, for his 5 road opportunities, he is 3-1 with a 2.34 ERA.
