Jake Diekman has been with the Philadelphia Phillies since May 11.  He is obviously here to retire left-handed hitters.  How has he done in a mostly-limited role?

Jim Thome Launches A 466′ Missile To Centerfield In The 4th

He went 2 for 4 with a walk, a bomb and 4 RBI. He was joined on the top floor by John Mayberry Jr., Jonathan Papelbon, Chad Qualls and Michael Martinez.

Big John went 2 for 5 with a clout and drove in 4. Qualls notched 2 outs on 3 K’s with a biting slider, and Cinco Ocho slammed the door without any additional drama.

Greenhouse Cholley had company in the 1st before an out was recorded:  4 one-base knocks and 2 runs.

The Bathhouse turned on the showers after 4 batters for the opposing starter.

Rally Tal & Cap during the 1st with a tally of 6:  The first 4 in the order singled, which was followed by another hit and a 3-RBI blast.

Martinez sparkled on a fielding-and-glove-flip force play in the 1st, achieving display at the Leather Warehouse.

Mayberry wolfed down a tater and 4 steaks by the 2nd inning at the Steakhouse. Thome sat down after him and enjoyed the same order by the 4th.

Cholley’s Doghouse was occupied by Jimmy Rollins, who went for an ill-advised force at 2nd in the 3rd. Chooch Ruiz was easily out at 3rd on poor base running in the 6th to join J-Roll.

Big John Smacks A 1st-Inning, 3-Run Dong

Thoms launched a 466’ rocket over the centerfield batter’s eye to rattle the cages at the Animal House in the 4th.

The House Of Cards almost completely imploded during the 7th, when a 6-run advantage vanished to only 1.

House Cleaning in the 8th and 9th showed up with Papelbon for 4 consecutive outs.

WELCOME, NEWCOMERS:

I will publish after every battle that is not washed out. The Phillies finished last summer 42 games over .500, which equaled a year of many positives. I will have many season-long highlights of puzzle pieces, especially important after drubbings and defeats.

NITECAP INSIGHT

Bite And Venom:

Most fans feel that you cannot separate this from that to analyze a player. However, that’s exactly what managers and GM’s do all the time to reach decisions. Qualls was signed due to his last 19 opportunities, and not his overall numbers for home versus away. That latter calculation was my appraisal of Chad, who did better in a cavernous yard. His mistakes were loud outs was my thinking. It turns out it was inconsistency of command that did him in.

J-Roll’s Ankle Is Grabbed After The Force Out At 2nd In The 1st On Mini Mart’s Spectacular Play

A lot of fans fall in love with potential stars, like Diekman. Tuesday night he walked two left-handed sticks, allowed a knock to the other, but he punched out the right-handed bat with the bags filled. Of course, an inherited runner scored and was charged to another’s line.

I removed his 2nd performance from the totals, where he was rushing his pitches. A mistake he has corrected. However, I left his stats untouched against LH lumber, which is his responsibility as a lefty specialist. He is filling the job that had been vacant for a couple years. Jake the Snake is death for those in the right-field side of the batter’s box.

MAC:

The program acronym is for Methodical Algorithmic Computerization or Mac.  That is the feed system from Fox Sports that had dogged me for 2 months.  I probed for a compatible solution, and found that I had possibilities 90% of the time.  The rest is luck, which means that you know about half of my articles.  In other words, if a Fox affiliate publishes, that trumps everything else.  The balance is a flip of the coin.  Some of those missed write-ups drew positive responses from other outlets.
