San Diego Padres
PHILADELPHIA -- Cole Hamels threw seven strong innings in his first start back from suspension, Jimmy Rollins ended a long homerless drought and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the San Diego Padres 3-2 on Sunday. Hamels (5-1) allowed one run and five hits, striking out five. The two-time All-Star left-hander was suspended five games by Major League Baseball after admitting he intentionally hit Washington rookie Bryce Harper with a pitch last week. Rollins gave the Phillies a 1-0 lead with his 38th career leadoff homer, extending his franchise record. He blasted one out to right off Jeff Suppan (2-1) for his first homer this season. Rollins went 162 at-bats with hitting a homer, dating to last year and including the postseason. Jonathan Papelbon struck out two out in a scoreless ninth for his 10th save in as many chances. The victory gave the last-place Phillies two of three from the Padres for Philadelphia's first series win since beating Atlanta two of three to start the m...

Cole Hamels is widely considered to be the best pitcher hitting the free agent market this offseason. That is, of course, if he doesn't re-sign with the Phillies first. The Philadelphia starter 's agent is reportedly asking the team for a seven-year deal, according to NBC Philadelphia's Howard Eskin. Hamels, 28, is 5-1 with a 2.28 ERA to start the season, and would likely...
While the Phillies have been looking for answers as they’ve struggled through the first five weeks of the season, Cole Hamels has been one of their most consistent pieces as they look to climb out of the cellar in the NL East.

Why worry about next year when the Phillies are mired in last place at 16-19, six games behind Atlanta?
Because of the core.
You, know: The Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, Jimmy Rollins, Cole Hamels, core.
We all knew that age would crack the core of the Phillies, but now money is rearing its ugly head.
Cole Hamels is a gamer.
Anybody who knows anything about baseball knows that the pitcher...
Cole Hamels was the final emerging member of the core four for the Philadelphia Phillies, which led to the 2008 championship. Do you know where and how this era appeared? Do you know why? Did Rube Amaro ruin the future of the club?

The 5-game suspension Cole Hamels received for smacking Nationals rookie Bryce Harper with a pitch last week turned out to be sort of a joke. With the off day on Thursday, the Phillies were able to rearrange the rotation, pitching Roy Halladay yesterday and Hamels today. So as it turns out, Hamels did not even miss a start.
And the Phillies are sure glad he did not. Hamels was solid...
The Philadelphia Phillies' week began with a suspension coming off a series loss to a division rival. It continued with a sweep at the hands of another division foe, which led to manager Charlie Manuel calling for a closed-door team meeting. But if all is well that ends well, the Phillies are feeling a little better about themselves after taking their first series in nearly...
Jonathan Papelbon was acquired by the Philadelphia Phillies to protect the victories for the Apocalyptic Horsemen. However, it wasn’t long before fate intervened. When you watch these 4 studs, do you completely understand this wealth of talent?

Baseball's new villain Cole Hamels is looking for a seven-year contract extension that surpasses C.C. Sabathia's seven-year, $161 million deal with the Yankees in 2008 according to Andrew Kulp The700Level.com. Apparently he'll hold the world hostage if nobody gives that kind of money to him.
Back in March, I speculated that Hamels could ask for a C.J. Wilson's type...
The Phils’ offense knocked in enough runs to support a good start by Cole Hamels as they go on to defeat the Padres, 3-2.
The Phils took the lead in the first as Jimmy Rollins hits a lead-off home run, his first home run of the year, and the 38th lead-off home run of his career, giving the Phils a 1-0 lead. The Phils increased their lead in the second as, with a man on second,...
With runners on first and third and two outs in a game last week between the Nationals and Phillies, Cole Hamels threw to first base to keep the runner in check. The Nationals’ 19 year old phenom Bryce Harper exploded towards home plate the moment Hamels lifted his leg like a sprinter leaving the blocks at the sound of a gun. Harper, who was called up on April 28th, was on...
