Kyle Kendrick pitched effectively for 6 2-3 innings and Jimmy Rollins drove in a pair of runs to lead the Philadelphia Phillies to a 4-2 victory over the Washington Nationals on Friday night. Kendrick (7-9), one of seven pitchers used by Philadelphia, allowed four hits and struck out three to help the Phillies win for the fifth time in the last seven games. Tyler Moore homered for Washington, which lost its second straight. Moore snapped Kendrick's 21 2/3 innings scoreless streak with a two-out, two-run homer in the seventh. Kendrick retired the first two batters in the frame before walking Kurt Suzuki. Moore, pinch-hitting for Edwin Jackson (11-8), launched an 0-1 sinker into the seats in left to pull Washington within 3-2.

Mayberry Provides the Offense in 4-2 Win

For once, the Phillies did not look like the 2012 Phillies; they looked like the Phillies of old in their 4-2 victory.  They played a little small ball and the pitching was terrific.  The Phillies will go for the sweep tomorrow! HALLADAY HAS STRONG START - Roy Halladay pitched seven strong innings.  He gave up two earned runs, both coming from Steve Lombordozzi’s two-run single...

Cliff Lee’s Contract A Major Obstacle to Phillies Future

When Cliff Lee arrived in Philadelphia on July 29, 2009, it was an exciting time for the Phillies. Fresh off of a World Series win and in the thick of another pennant race, Lee was seen as a piece that could put the Phillies over the top. And he did exactly that. Cliff Lee’s impact was immediate. He gave the team a top of the rotation pitcher that they could pair with their ace...

Placido Polanco is Hurt Again; Phillies Future in Doubt

Just a few days after his activation, Placido Polanco appears to be hurt again.   The Inquirer's Matt Gelb reports that Polanco is out of the lineup because it hurts for him to field. Polanco was to alternate play with infielder Kevin Frandsen upon his return, but last night Polanco sat out his second game in a row.  Today will be the third and a disabled list stint is...

Writer’s Roundtable: The Domonic Brown Situation

Domonic Brown looks like he could become the Phillies full-time right fielder next year after trades of Hunter Pence and Shane Victorino have allowed him to be up with the big club for what looks to be a permanent stay. However, it seems like Philadelphia is split on their opinions of him. Some say he stinks, some say he’s great, and others remain patient that he will reach...

The Best Of The Philadelphia Phillies 1990s Retro Night

You know those annoying Facebook macros going around with a picture of the Angry Beavers on it or whatever, with a big caption reading “ONLY 90S KIDS WOULD REMEMBER THIS CLICK LIKE” across the top? The Philadelphia Phillies made an entire night out of that.Wednesday’s 3-2 loss to Brandon Bronson Arroyo was ’90s Retro Night at Citizens Bank Park, and as the mascot-loving...

The Phils start their series with the 1st-place Nats with a 4-2 win.

The Phils starts off their latest series with a win as they defeat the first place Nats, 4-2. The Phils took the lead in the first as, with two men on, and with nobody out, Chase Utley hits an RBI single, knocking in Jimmy Rollins, who has started off the Phils’ half of the first with a single, then stopped at second base on Kevin Frandsen’s walk, giving the Phils a 1-0 lead...

Meeting the Goals, and Pharming

When the Phillies started trading on July 31st, all of our goals for 2012 were pretty much re-set. Get out of last, try to get to .500, hopefully get to third place, get the guys who were hurt going good, and develop the young guys. They've actually done pretty well at these. The Phillies are 59-67, so not .500 yet, but they aren't just out of last, they're up...

John Mayberry Walks it off with RBI Single in Eleventh Inning; Phils win, 4-3

Cole Hamels against Johnny Cueto sounds like an awfully good pitching match-up. The two candidates for the Cy Young award battled in a pitcher's duel after a shaky and rainy first inning from Cole Hamels. Once Hamels found his groove, the Reds were in trouble. That first inning for Cole looked like a whole lot of trouble. In the middle of a downpour, Cole gave up two singles...

Phillies 4, Reds 3(11)

John Mayberry Jr. hit an RBI single in the bottom of the 11th inning to lift the Philadelphia Phillies to a 4-3 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday night. Todd Frazier drove in all three runs for the NL Central-leading Reds, who were seeking their first series win in Philadelphia since 2006. The Phillies tied it in the eighth on Jimmy Rollins' sacrifice fly and won...

Nationals-Phillies Preview

Despite being separated by 19 1/2 games in the standings, the Washington Nationals have had some trouble beating the Philadelphia Phillies. The NL East leaders, however, have yet to face them with the core of their lineup intact. That will change this weekend. The Nationals look to exact some revenge against the only team to take a series from them since the All-Star break as they...
