Boston Red Sox
PHILADELPHIA -- Philadelphia's pitchers, led by starter Cole Hamels and capped by closer Jonathan Papelbon, kept Boston's offense in check and won the first Interleague meeting of the season between the teams 6-4 on Friday night at Citizens Bank Park. It was just the third time in eight games in which the Red Sox had scored four runs or fewer. Papelbon, who was drafted by Boston (18-21) and pitched there from 2005-11 before signing as a free agent with the Phillies this past offseason, closed the door on his former team in the ninth for his 12th save. The Phillies (21-19), owners of a six-game winning streak, are now two games over .500 for the first time this season. Leading just 5-4 in the bottom of the eighth, the Phillies got a big home run from rookie Freddy Galvis. The eight-hole hitter hit his second homer of the season to make it a two-run game. After Hamels pitched a scoreless seventh, his 113-pitch count forced the Phillies to turn to the bullpen in the e...

The Phillies closer referred to himself in the third person as "Cinco" and criticized his former team during a bizarre interview that aired on Boston radio.
Jonathan Papelbon loves to talk and when asked about it being weird to face his old club, he admitted it would be. But not for Cinco Ocho. He ain't afraid of nothin'!
"It won't be weird. It might be a little weird for Pap, but it won't be weird for Cinco," Papelbon told Boston's WEEI radio. "Cinco is like a great white, when he smells blood...
Jonathan Papelbon was quite the character in Boston, and he's quite the character in Philadelphia. The veteran closer, who goes by the self-proclaimed nickname Cinco Ocho, has continued his crazy ways in his new home, providing fans with plenty of personality. That personality is what truly separates him from the game's other All-Stars. Papelbon couples his unique personality...
One thing is for sure, Jonathan Papelbon is never lacking in the self-confidence department. Yes, he has the closer mentality we speak about all the time.
With the upcoming weekend series coming up bringing the Boston Red Sox to town you might expect that Papelbon will be one of the focal points in the media. That got started Monday on Boston radio station WEEI, and with a featured...
The red Sox will see Jonathan Papelbon on Friday for the first time since the All-Star closer left during the offseason. Papelbon had some interesting things to say about his former club on Thursday and he appears to have even developed a new alter-ego, "Cinco." NESN Red Sox analyst Dennis Eckersley broke down Papelbon's attitude and overall pitching style during Thursday...
He wasn't going to sit there and lie about this being just another set of three games during the long grind of 162 during the regular season. No, Jonathan Papelbon and his self-described alter ego -- "Cinco Ocho" -- had known the exact date and time that his old Boston Red Sox teammates would make their way to Citizens Bank Park. "I've been looking forward...
Coming back from a 4-0 road trip, the Phillies are finally over .500 and are currently riding a five-game winning streak. They'll look to continue that streak as Interleague Play begins tonight. The Phils will host the Red Sox to open a three-game, weekend set. This is the first Interleague series that the Phillies will play this season. Cole Hamels, Joe Blanton and Cliff Lee...
PHILADELPHIA –– Metallica's "For Whom the Bell Tolls" started blaring over the loudspeakers at Citizens Bank Ballpark. As the chorus grew louder, Jonathan Papelbon trotted out of the bullpen. It was an unfamiliar setting for the closer, considering it was Papelbon's first career save opportunity against the Red Sox. Just hours earlier, he expressed his desire...
Pitching deep into almost every game, Cole Hamels of the Philadelphia Phillies is among the best. What other premier starters are out west? The Apocalyptic Horsemen Stats are in my daily coverage.

The Phillies signed Jonathan Papelbon to a very rich contract in the offseason, and he earned his money last night, notching his 12th save of the season against his former teammates, the Boston Red Sox.
With the game on the line, the music blared and Jonathan Papelbon, the $50 million closer for the Phillies ran onto the field. Papelbon is always intense and focused, but his eyes...
Cole Hamels, you're on notice. After you plunked Bryce Harper as a "welcome to the big leagues" moment, don't even think about pulling that stunt with our young stud player, Will Middlebrooks. If we've learned anything about Harper, it's that he might have deserved a little bit of an attitude adjustment. If you think the same about our Middlebrooks, well...
The Phillies took down the Red Sox in the first game of their 3 game series, 6 - 4, with Jonathan Papelbon shutting the door. As if it would have ended any other way.
This one looked like a disaster from the jump, as Bard was just awful in the first. He gave up 3 walks and 2 hits leading to 4 runs in the inning. He settled down after that, only allowing one more hit the rest...
In a rematch of last year's World Series -- oh wait.In a meeting of the two teams everybody picked to be in the World Series in 2011, the Red Sox head to Philly tonight. (In an odd bit of karma, the Celtics are headed there too.)Daneil Bard, pitching well lately. gets the start. Cole Hamels, pitching better, starts for Philly. The Phillies have something in common with the Sox...
