B.J. Upton hit his first long ball of spring training to give Atlanta a late lead, but Darin Ruf connected for game-ending homer with two outs in the ninth inning Friday, lifting the Philadelphia Phillies to a 7-6 victory over Braves.
Upton homered to put Atlanta up 5-4 in the seventh and the Braves added a run on a double-play grounder in the eighth. The Phillies scored twice in the bottom of the eighth to tie it at 6 before Ruf connected off Daniel Rodriguez.
Evan Gattis hit two home runs for the Braves.
Phillies starter Adam Morgan, who had been re-assigned to minor league camp earlier this spring, allowing only one run and four hits in a spot appearance. He struck out five.

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- Tim Hudson has been picked to start on opening day for the Atlanta Braves.
Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez announced his choice Thursday. It will be the third time Hudson has pitched the opener for Atlanta. He also made three opening-day starts with Oakland.

According to the Delaware News Journal’s Chris Branch, outfielders Darin Ruf and Jermaine Mitchell have been reassigned to minor league camp while pitcher Rodrigo Lopez has been released.
Ruf was hitting .246 after today’s game but the main concern according to team officials was defense. Branch says team officials say Ruf needs more seasoning in the outfield while staying sharp...
ATLANTA -- With March comes a national infatuation with brackets. That much is clear.
But as the NCAA tournament kicks off, baseball still lurks right around the corner--and the Atlanta Braves' and their explosive offense are tearing up Grapefruit League pitching. So the Chopcast team (Zach Dillard, Jay Clemons and Cory McCartney) thought to combine the two infatuations into...
Braves fans are in for a fun year. You have to admire this organization. Chipper Jones exits stage left as possibly the greatest Atlanta Brave ever. The organization waits just a few months and brings in Justin Upton, a kid that many scouts said would be the next Ken Griffey Jr. type player and added him to a lineup who scouts said would be the next Ken Griffey Jr. type player (Jason...
The jury is still out on whether Darin Ruf will make the Phillies opening day roster, but odds are that at some point this season, he'll be back in Philadelphia. With big power and the ability to hit for average, Ruf could have big potential for the Phillies.

If you have caught any of the Phillies Spring Training games this year, you likely have seen a player enter a game that you have never heard of. The Phillies have used 68 players in Spring action this...
Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Roy Halladay took the mound for the Phillies in a “B” game this morning. Halladay is feeling better after losing 10 pounds from a virus and hoped to have better results than his two previous starts. He didn’t.
Halladay threw 27 pitches in the first inning. His fastball topped out at 90 MPH and was consistently between 88-89, but he lacked command...
I’ll start off by reminding you that despite the fact that Jason Heyward has played three full major league seasons, he’s still just 23 years old. What he’s accomplished to this point is pretty astounding, and by the time he peaks around age 26-28, he’s going to be a top-10 fantasy player. We’ve all heard [...]
Julio Teheran struck out 10 in six hitless innings and Dan Uggla homered as a split squad of Atlanta Braves beat the Houston Astros 3-2 Saturday.
The Astros' runs came in the ninth on a homer by Rick Ankiel off closer Craig Kimbrel.
Teheran, who won the job as the Braves' fifth starter this spring, walked three and has 1.04 ERA in six starts. The right-hander pitched five...
The baseball world moves very fast. That’s why I always find it interesting at this time of year to think back to where the Phils were last year. You might be amazed at how much you forget in just one year, so I thought I would remind you through a short hike down memory lane.

Cole Hamels looked fine facing a Red Sox lineup that seemed ready for opening day. John Lackey did equally well against a Phillies side with a few familiar names.
Lackey pitched five sharp innings, Hamels threw six good innings and Boston beat Philadelphia 6-1 Thursday night.
Hamels, set to start on opening day, gave up one run and four hits. He struck out five and walked two....
