Philadelphia, Pa – The Phillies beat Miami 9-7 and now at .500. They are the hottest team in baseball winning 10 of their last 12 games. The Phillies find themselves 4.5 games out a wild-card spot with 20 games left. This poses the question will the band-wagon fans that turned their backs on the Phillies do a one-eighty and come back?

If the Phillies keep winning then the sell-out streak will start again. Too bad there isn’t a way to track the fair weather fans but those fans should not come back. Those fans are not true Phillies fans, the stadium may not be sold out but the fans that continued to come are the heart and soul of the Phillies….the true blue collar fans. These are people they were there when the Phillies were a last place team playing at the Vet. The real fans that stick around all 9 innings no matter the score. The loyal die-hards that would come every night and wouldn’t just show up because it was a bobble head give away night.  The same core of fans that would live and die with Phillies and always support the club.

Trust me the team knows who the real fans are. The band-wagoners might as well be O’s fans now since in the past few weeks I’ve heard more talk about the Baltimore- New York (AL) race than the Phillies.  It’s funny how people have a short term memory. The Phillies were in a similar position a few years back and with 20 games left you never know. The Phillies chances of getting a wild-card spot are slim but they are alive. What more could you want as a fan, we have meaningful baseball in September in Philadelphia. For time-long fans this is still worth getting excited about.
