The Phillies faltered late and blew a seventh inning, two-run lead that led to a 5-4 loss at the hands of the struggling Milwaukee Brewers on Friday. Aramis Ramirez got the winning base hit with men on the corners and one out in the ninth, securing the come-from behind win for the Crew and halting the Phillies’ win streak before it could reach six games. The Phillies spotted Cliff Lee a four run lead, but he struggled as the game went on. Lee departed with the score tied at four in the seventh, and the offense fell dormant and failed to score against the Brewer’s bullpen. Lee labors a bit through his seven innings The left-hander had just one clean inning and gave up four runs for the first time since May 1 (albeit only three earned). He allowed eight hits and uncharacteristically walked three batters. Until today, he had walked three in just one other game, and had not allowed a walk in his previous two starts. Lee did strike out nine batters, however, which givs him 20 strikeouts ...

At age 34, Cliff Lee is as good (or better) than ever

There are two things that are certain when it comes to Cliff Lee this year—he is having a monster season so far, and he is not getting any younger. But he might just be getting better. I dug up some research on Lee, and tried to put what he has done both this season, and since re-joining the Phillies in 2011, into perspective. I found that age has made no difference in his output...

Red Sox Draft Pick Trey Ball Models Game After Cliff Lee, Plans to Really Work on Curveball Going Forward

BOSTON — Who needs Cliff Lee when you can add an 18-year-old version of the lefty? OK, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Brewers looking to stop surging Phillies tonight

The Philadelphia Phillies have climbed above .500 for the first time this season. Their rise could continue with Cliff Lee getting the ball next. Lee goes for his first four-start winning streak in two seasons Friday night in his second matchup with the lowly Milwaukee Brewers in less than a week. After failing twice in April, the Phillies (31-30) finally moved over the break-even...

Death By Twizzler: Cliff Lee Gets No Decision

You could blame the Phillies pitching, stinky offense or the sloppy defense for last night’s 4-5 loss to the Brewers.  Or you can join me in blaming the Twizzlers.  I do believe that red devil candy somehow sucked the mojo right out of Cliff Lee.  The fact that the evil licorice was handed to Lee by a young Brewers fan reinforces my theory: Then again, a few other factors may...
