Found July 29, 2012 on Philliedelphia:
The 2012 Phillies have brought us plenty of excitement this year, mostly in the form of guest accordion appearances on the television broadcasts.  Unfortunately, the excitement has not come from the team on the field, and now it is time to sell. ESPN's Jayson Stark reports that teams the Phillies have been talking to believe that within the next (now) 44 hours, the Phillies could make 2-3 deals.  The greatest focus on trades have centered around the Phillies outfield: there have been rumors that Juan Pierre, Shane Victorino, and/or Hunter Pence could be traded by the 4:00 p.m. non-waiver trade deadline on Tuesday.  Perhaps in anticipation of possible trades, Phillies (is he still?) prospect Domonic Brown spent time today in both center field and right field. In today's double header at Lehigh Valley, Brown played game one in center and game two in right.   Brown played a handful of games in center this season, though this would be his first game in right field.   Should...

  • my only comment here is RA thinks he did all the right things for the Phil's but I think NOT. He single handedly destroyed this team.
Spending all their money on pitching, great if you had the arsenal to go with them.
But who did he have available?
Actually, sounded similiar to Washington DC giving all our (in this case, not PHil's)money away to help big business and selling us out to O'care.
    D. Brown played right before here in Philly, so not his first time.
Start trade with a good-bye to Amaro...... adios......

A Haphazard Estimate re Victorino, Dodger Left Fielder

As both managing editor Dave Cameron and large swaths of the internet have noted, outfielder Shane Victorino has been traded by the Phillies to the Dodgers. Despite the fact that he’s probably a superior defender to Matt Kemp, it’s unlikely that Victorino will push the incumbent Kemp to left field. (This is what’s known in legal terms as the Derek Jeter Precedent.) It stands...

O'Donnell was right after all, Pence to Giants

A couple nights ago, Dennis O'Donnell of KPIX twittered about that the Giants "have acquired Hunter Pence". It started a wildfire of retweets (re-posts for you old people not on Twitter), by everyone and their mother, including Andy Baggarly of CSN.  With fans going nuts over this apparent news, KPIX ran the story even after Baggarly had confirmed with Bobby...

Quick Note On Trading Hunter Pence

The CBS affiliate in San Francisco, KPIX's sports director Dennis O'Donnell, is reporting that the Phillies have a deal in place to send Hunter Pence to the San Francisco Giants. The deal is in place, pending the owner's approval (presumably because the Giants have to take on payroll outside of their budgeted amount). I'm fine with trading Pence, even though he...

Dodgers acquire OF Victorino from Phillies

LOS ANGELES The Los Angeles Dodgers today acquired outfielder Shane Victorino from the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for right-handed reliever Josh Lindblom, minor league right-hander Ethan Martin and a player to be named later or cash considerations. Dodger General Manager Ned Colletti made the announcement. Were excited to add an All-Star caliber player with postseason experience...

Philly Receives Respectable Return for Hunter Pence

The San Francisco Giants have secured a veteran outfielder for the stretch run but it comes at the cost of a young catching prospect. Tommy Joseph, 21, was the organization’s second round draft pick in 2009 and he’s moved methodically through the minor league system, one level each year, and landed in double-A to begin the 2012 season. Despite being known as an offensive-minded...

FIRE SALE: Phillies Send Hunter Pence to San Francisco

Just hours after Shane Victorino was sent across the country to Los Angeles, his partner in the outfield is also headed to California. It's official that Hunter Pence has been traded to the SF Giants. The Giants will be responsible for the remainder of his $10.4 million salary for the 2012 season. Pence is eligible to be a free agent after the completion of next season. What...

Report: Pence-To-Giants Deal "Could Happen"

Things are heating up with just about 16 hours left until the trade deadline at 4 PM ET tomorrow afternoon. According to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, there is "definitely some juice" between the San Francisco Giants and the Phillies regarding outfielder Hunter Pence.  theres definitely some juice to the pence-to-the-giants talks. SF determined to land a hitter. "...

Phillies send Pence to Giants

The Philadelphia Phillies have traded two-time All-Star right fielder Hunter Pence to the San Francisco Giants for three players. The last-place Phillies get outfielder Nate Schierholtz, minor league catcher Tommy Joseph and minor league right-handed pitcher Seth Rosin for Pence in Tuesday's deal. Pence is batting .271 with 17 homers and 59 RBI this season. Schierholtz batted...

Dodgers Get Shane Victorino For Nothing They’ll Miss

Okay, they didn’t actually get him for nothing. To acquire the Phillies center fielder (who will almost certainly play left in LA), the Dodgers gave up 25-year-old reliever Josh Lindblom and enigmatic right-handed pitching prospect Ethan Martin. Reports are that the Dodgers felt comfortable moving Lindblom after acquiring Brandon League from the Mariners last night, but in reality...

SF Giants Rumors: Pence, Other Names Linked To Giants, And Schierholtz Update

Dennis O’Donnell of CBS 5  went on the air last night saying a source says the San Francisco Giants have acquired outfielder Hunter Pence.   The team has not confirmed this deal at this time. Which means the Giants could be close to landing Pence, or it could be some bad information passed by the source. Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com says the Giants have been tied to Pence, Aramis...

Biertempfel: Pirates Unwilling to Part with Top Prospects

Rob Biertempfel reports: The Pirates are reluctant to part with rookie outfielder Starling Marte or top right-handed pitching prospects Jameson Taillon and Gerrit Cole, which takes them out of the running for outfielder such as Hunter Pence, Shane Victorino and Shin-Soo Choo. I think the Pirates are definitely being smart in not giving up any of these three guys for the people mentioned...

Dodgers Trade Deadline Coverage: Ryan Dempster

Jayson Stark tweets that a Victorino trade would also mean Soriano won’t be attached to any Dempster trade to LA. They preferred Victorino all along anyway. David Kaplan is reporting that the Dodgers remain very much in play for Dempster. However, nothing is close at this time. Jon Heyman tweets that contrary to reports the Yankees are no longer in on Dempster. In hopes of keeping...

Pregame: Lee vs. Strasburg Closes Out Big Trade Day

A busy day in a dreadful Phillies season finds them shipping Shane Victorino and Hunter Pence out of town. Both moves were very necessary and look for more in the next month as the waiver trade deadline approaches. My brief editorial is the return for Victorino and Pence is worthy of them. I was among the few that felt the haul to land Pence in the first place was ridiculous and...

Fantasy Trade Deadline Winners and Losers

With the 2012 major league baseball trade deadline now officially over, here is a look at some of the players who will see a shift in value for the rest of the season thanks to trades that happened to them or to their teammates. Winners: OF – Domonic Brown (PHI) – with the trade of Hunter Pence to the San Francisco Giants, Brown should once again have a chance to prove himself...
