The Phillies have been losing games because they can't get a hit. The latest one came without so much as a swing. After waiting all night to finish off the game, Philadelphia never even got a chance to bat. Jay Bruce singled with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning, sending the Cincinnati Reds to a 1-0 victory on Wednesday. The game was suspended when heavy rain came on Tuesday night. Several hundred fans were in the stands to watch it resume. Only four batters and 9 minutes later, it was over, giving the teams plenty of time to get ready for their regularly scheduled game. And a little more time for the Phillies to stew over another wasted chance. ''It's frustrating to go out there and the game's over,'' said Phillippe Aumont (1-2). ''Now I have nine innings to think about what I've done wrong.'' Aumont had been warming up to face Zack Cozart when the rain came on Tuesday night. Eighteen hours later, Cozart finally...

Ben Revere’s Catch of the Year Candidate

Ben Revere looked like a man on a mission last night. With a pair of highlight reel catches, Revere pulled out all the stops behind Cliff Lee. Before the game, he dedicated his play to the victims of the Boston tragedy, including a taping a simple message on his glove: Pray for Boston. For the benefit of those who missed it, here is Revere’s catch from last night, courtesy of MLB...

Phillies’ Ben Revere Makes Spectacular Catch (Video)

This is easily the defensive play of the year so far in this young MLB season. Watch as Philadelphia Phillies center fielder Ben Revere gets a great jump on a well-hit ball and makes a spectacular catch in the outfield. Thanks to Blacksportsonline for the footage.

Phillies place LHP John Lannan on 15-day DL

Phillies pitcher John Lannan has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained quadriceps tendon in his left knee. The move was made Thursday before Philadelphia hosted the St. Louis Cardinals. Lannan aggravated the injury during an 11-2 loss to Cincinnati on Wednesday, when he gave up six runs and eight hits in 1 2-3 innings. He said he first experienced pain in his knee...

ESPN writer questions Dusty Baker's late-game decision

Our beloved Redlegs put an end to their dreaded 5-game losing skid Monday night with a 4-2 win over the Phillies. But there was a point in the game when it appeared as if the Reds might be heading toward a sixth consecutive loss. That moment came in the top of the eighth inning when Bronson Arroyo ran into trouble. Up until that point, Arroyo had hurled a gem, essentially blanking...

Will Bumbling Charlie Manuel Stay With Aumont Today?

Categories: BREAKING NEWS News Phillies PitchersTags: Charlie ManuelPhilliesPhillippe AumontCharlie Manuel has made yet another dumb managerial decision. Last night in a 0-0 game at the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati, Manuel put Phillippe Aumont in to pitch the bottom of the 9th inning, rather than multi-million dollar set-up man Mike Adams. We never got to see what Aumont...

The Phillies Offense Has Sprung a Leake

In 2012, the Phillies faced Reds pitcher Mike Leake twice and destroyed him to the tune of 13 runs. He had an overall ERA against the Phils of 17.55. Ouch. But last night, this team sprung Leake from his Phillies prison, allowing him to mow them down one hitter after another. Ah, sweet freedom for Mr. Leake. He must be quite relieved this morning. On the exact opposite side, the...

In brief: Reds winners on Robinson Day

Last game The Reds snapped their 5-game losing streak last night against the Phillies when they won 2-4. Photo from Better Off Red. Thanks, guys.Bronson Arroyo put in a good long outing, going 8.0 innings and allowing 2 runs (earned) on 5 hits. Cliff Lee was nearly as efficient and put up 6 quick, scoreless innings before a Joey Votto single, Brandon Phillips double, and 10-pitch...

Ben Revere acknowledges Boston tragedy, makes incredible catch (video)

Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Ben Revere made perhaps the best catch so far of the early MLB season on Monday during the second inning of the team’s game against the Cincinnati Reds at the Great American Ball Park. With the game scoreless, Revere traced a liner — although he appears to misjudge the trajectory of the ball for a moment — off the bat of Cincinnati third baseman...

In brief: your tickets are good for at least 1.05 games tonight

Bailey was on pace for a complete game shut-out if the other guy hadn’t been just as good. Oh, the rain was a problem, too.Last game Technically, last night’s game still isn’t over, so does it qualify as the “last game”? Homer Bailey was just spectacular last night before the rain stopped the 0-0 game after the top of the ninth inning. He struck out 10 in his 8.0 innings...

Reds beat Phillies in suspended game, 1-0

CINCINNATI (AP) -- Jay Bruce singled with the bases loaded in the bottom of ninth inning on Wednesday, sending the Cincinnati Reds to a strange 1-0 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies in a game suspended overnight because of rain. The game resumed in the bottom of the ninth with a few hundred people in the stands. Bruce's single off Phillippe Aumont (1-2) came only 9 minutes...

Lannan Looking To Avoid Sweep

Well that was fast and also quite predictable. Yet, another game is on tap. John Lannan looks to build on his rather impressive start to the season against Mike Leake, who comes into tonight's contest with a 6.75 ERA and 1.83 WHIP in two starts. Just the right guy to...

Phillies fall short, but show fight in 4-3 loss to the Cardinals

For the seventh straight game, the Phillies offense has failed to score in the first five innings of a game.  In addition, they also have not scored 3 or more runs in any of those games either.  Another stat that I find disturbing is that they have not drawn a walk in 4 straight games.  The last team to accomplish that feat was the Chicago White Sox in August of 2011....
