It is getting closer and closer to Thanksgiving, and Philadelphia hasn't heard a peep out of Ruben Amaro Jr...until now.  At the GM meetings, Ruben wasn't expecting to make any major moves, but maybe lay the groundwork.  On Thursday night, the Phillies general amnager did just that, as he has been communicating with outfielder B.J. Upton's agent.   With Josh Hamilton and former Phillie Michael Bourn looking for the big bucks, Upton may be a better option for the Phillies. The 28 year old center fielder is a right handed bat, which the Phillies desperately need.  Upton is a free agent, and could be a perfect fit for the Phillies. Upton hit 28 homers, 78 RBI's, and a .246 batting average.  Amaro also said he was having some conversations about trades.  The meetings could help Amaro find the three key peices he is looking for, a right handed center fielder, a third baseman, and a late innning reliever. Amaro stated that in the several conversations he has had at the meetings, more have been about trades.

Bottom of the second inning, and as Upton walked toward the plate, he might have noticed that no one was referring to him as the future anymore… It wasn’t much of a crowd, and therefore it wasn’t much of a heckle, but what it lacked in long and loud, it made up for in short and sweet. This was the sound of a crowd protesting spoiled brats and mouthy prospects and unpaid dues...

MLB Opinion: B.J. Upton High on Phillies List… Really?

Reports from the MLB general manager meetings are saying that the Philadelphia Phillies are making 28 year old B.J. Upton a top priority to fill one of their holes in the outfield. Upton is a potential 30/30 player who plays above average defense and could fill the...

Rays might shake up starting rotation

After much talk the past few years, the Tampa Bay Rays finally appear ready to trade a starting pitcher. In fact, they could even trade two, considering that they've got eight to choose from. So, is there a scenario in which the Rays could move both left-hander David Price and righty James Shields? Of course, if the respective prices are right. The Rays, though, are more likely...

Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. in Talks with B.J. Upton's Agent

According to a report from CSN Philly's Jim Salisbury, the Phillies are in communications with free agent B.J. Upton's agent, Larry Reynolds. Upton is the ideal outfielder for the Phillies. The 28 year old, right handed hitter can play the field well, hit for power, and bring home runs, which is exactly what the Phillies' lineup needs in 2013. Without hitters like Hunter...

Upton Brothers To Reunite?

One of the most intriguing things in sports is watching siblings play. It’s always great to see them play against each other (Eli vs. Peyton), but this offseason the Upton brothers actually have a chance of playing on the same team.  Wouldn’t it be great to watch them together, side by side? I think their productivity could rise to a new horizon. B.J. and Justin both need a...
