The Phils rung up the Marlins in the opener of today's doubleheader, despite striking out an astonishing 47 times. Joe Blanton continued to pitch quality innings, leaving the Marlins hitless from the second to the eighth inning, while striking out a total of nine batters. Also good news is that the Phils got past the Marlins best starter today, chasing Josh Johnson away after five innings, four earned runs, and 10 Ks. The Fish used three relievers, as did the Phillies.

On the heels of that 9-3 Phils victory, Jamie Moyer will take the mound tonight at 8:10 in front of dozens of interested fans and about as many stadium employees. This place is utterly pathetic, and if the Marlins get eliminated by a series sweep, I'm not sure anyone who doesn't work for the franchise will even care. If history is any indication, Moyer should be poised to do his part. Pappy is 8-0 with a 1.37 ERA over his career at what is now called LandShark stadium, making him the only person on the planet who isn't looking forward to the opening of a new home for the Marlins in a few years. We'll be sure to get a quote from him before his first start there.
