The Phillies are in an interesting spot heading into 2013, as there are legitimate holes to fill and a number of solid players they could pursue. The outfield has garnered plenty of attention, as the roster currently features five players either unproven, or who’ve proven that they are best utilized in a part-time role. Third base is a position of interest, with questionable internal options and an ugly free agent class. Bullpens are also always scrutinized and the Phils’ relief corps — which had the second worst eighth inning ERA in baseball last season — is no different

When discussing moves, however, it’s important to remember that everything is connected. Signing B.J. Upton means that another player is released, non-tendered or demoted. It would also mean that the team has less money to spend in other areas. A trade for Peter Bourjos might include one or two players currently on the major-league roster. Move...

It started with promise, with people pining to see Joe Savery in the bullpen. It ended with Savery wondering where he once against fits in the Phillies organization.
A former pitcher-turned-first-baseman-turned-pitcher, Savery found himself in Triple-A in 2011 as a budding star in the Iron Pigs bullpen. Also a former first round selection, Savery posted a 1.50 ERA between...
Kevin Frandsen did not get rich a few days ago when the Phillies signed him for $850,000 plus incentives. That is certainly not big money when it comes to baseball contracts. But when you think that it took eight years of minor league ball and several cups of coffee for him to stick at the major league level, that is a pretty big deal. But his signing doesn't mean that the Phillies...
Through 10 outings with the Peoria Javelinas in the Arizona Fall League, righty reliever Tyler Knigge has posted a 1-1 record with a 7.50 ERA, while striking out 10 batters and walking five over 12 innings.
Knigge, a 12th round draft selection by the Phillies in 2010, took great strides during the regular season, as he tallied a 4-1 record, nine saves and a 0.60 ERA in 34 outings...
Bastardo had his ups and downs in 2012.
Antonio Bastardo–equipped with a new jersey number–assumed the role of set-up man for the Phillies in 2012. He had the second most innings (behind Jonathan Papelbon) among Phils relievers, but never quite reached the Ryan Madson level that the Phillies have been looking for in a set-up man.
He posted a 4.33 ERA and had a pretty high...
The Philadelphia Phillies have agreed to an $850,000, one-year contract with third baseman Kevin Frandsen.
The Phillies announced the move on Tuesday. Frandsen had been eligible for salary arbitration.
Frandsen hit .338 with 10 doubles, 14 RBI and a .383 on-base percentage in 55 games last season. He also hit .302 in 99 games with Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Frandsen is a .267 career...

As with everything else in life, the only true constant in baseball is change. And this year especially, the Phillies are going to see their share of changes.
Infielder Pete Orr and catcher Steve Lerud have been outrighted from the 40-man roster. Placido Polanco and Ty Wigginton had their club options declines; the Phillies will instead pay them buy-outs and say bye-bye. Juan Pierre...
Philadelphia Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. is
aggressively pursuing an answer to the team’s void in center field this
offseason, reports Buster Olney of ESPN, and the club has been tied to free
agents Michael Bourn and B.J. Upton.
The Phillies have been in the market for a center fielder
since they traded veteran outfielder Shane Victorino to the Los Angeles...
Opening Day is one of the best days of the year. Anticipation and excitement lead up to the first official game of the season. A new year means new hopes, dreams, and memories.
For the Phillies, their expectations were higher than ever. They were coming off a year in which they had the most wins in franchise history. Most of the team was returning, and they added a big-name...
Could Bourn be back? (Mlb.com)
Nestled away inconspicuously in an article about baseball’s general mangers thoughts on instant replay, ESPN’s Keith Law slipped in a hint as to where the Phillies stand in relationship to finding an everyday center fielder. Law notes that rival executives and agents believe the Phillies will move fast and aggressively target Michael Bourn. Bourn...
Span would be a nice fit in Philly. (NBC Sports)
Yesterday, Eric Seidman unveiled his offseason plan for the Phillies, which included Nick Swisher, Peter Bourjos and others. Today, it’s my turn. Tomorrow, Corey will let us know what moves he wants the Phillies to make.
Here is my offseason plan.
Outfield: Trade for Denard Span
-I would love for the Phillies to grab this guy. He...
