Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro has reached out to teams letting them known that Michael Young and others can be had via trade prior to baseball’s July 31 trade deadline. While Young has been linked to Texas, Boston, New York and Baltimore one name the Phillies are reportedly not willing to part with is Cliff Lee. Young was acquired over the winter in a trade from Texas where he spent the first 13 years of his major league career. He becomes a free agent at the end of the season. Entering Sunday, Young has appeared in 97 games and holds a .277/.342/.402 line with seven home runs, 32 RBI and 38 runs scored.

Rollins: “I’m not going anywhere”

(MLB) Jimmy Rollins made it clear to the Philadelphia media traveling with the team in Detroit: “I’m not going anywhere.” That was his response when asked if he were approached by the team with a trade to a contender. Rollins has 5 and 10 rights, meaning five seasons with the same team, 10 in the league. Therefore, he has the ability to block all trades. Therefore, J-Roll isn’t...

Jonathan Papelbon rips Phillies

Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon is ready to pack his bags and leave Philadelphia if they don’t turn things around. “I definitely didn’t come here for this,” Papelbon told MLB.com. Papelbon signed a a four-year, $50 million contract in November 2011.  He was asked what he thought about

Will Phillies be able to trade Lee?

If it's July, Cliff Lee must be on the trade market. Actually, Lee hasn't been traded during the season since 2010. Chances are, he will not be traded before the non-waiver deadline at 4 p.m. ET Wednesday. But the Phillies are discussing their All-Star left-hander with other clubs, according to major league sources, creating the possibility of another Lee blockbuster. One...

Papelbon: Phillies need changes from top, down

Jonathan Papelbon had only a couple minutes to talk Sunday morning at Comerica Park but he said plenty expressing the need for changes in the organization if things do not improve on the field. Papelbon signed a four-year $50 million contract in November 2011 but he has known mostly losing at this point in Philadelphia. The Phillies returned home after a 12-4 loss to the Tigers...

Phillies Sign Cuban pitcher Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez To $50 Million Deal

In what can only be described as a historic first for the franchise, the Philadelphia Phillies just doled out some big money for a strong armed Cuban. The Philadelphia Inquirer is reporting that the Phillies signed Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez. Gonzalez defected to Mexico earlier this year and worked out for scouts in Tijuana. His deal reportedly is worth $60 million over six years,...

Cliff Lee: I really could not blame him

As I watch the Phillies continue to find ways to lose games, mostly due to a pathetic offense, I can only wonder how Cliff Lee is viewing the team. As we were told last night he will not be pitching Saturday night, .7/27, due to a sore neck, perhaps more of a throbbing pain in his neck. AKA ********* team syndrome”. Instead we get the watch another mediocre pitcher, Raul Valdes...

Cliff Lee Is Expensive

The Phillies will not give Cliff Lee away for some peanuts and a sack of potatoes. But I thought you knew that already. As we have seen Lee go from untouchable to maybe-touchable, one thing remains: Lee is a top pitcher. What else would you expect? CBS's Jon Heyman wrote...

Phillies Trade Rumors: Utley, Young, Papelbon, Ruiz and Lee

In the midst of an eight game losing streak and falling into third place in the NL East, the Philadelphia Phillies are ready to be sellers. Over 100 games into the season, the Phillies are seven games under .500, have fallen behind the Washington Nationals for second in the NL East and the closest route to the playoffs (the wildcard) is a 9.5 game deficit. Only five teams have a...

Jonathan Papelbon Points to Red Sox’ Rebuilding Process After 2011 Season as Direction Phillies Should Take

When the Red Sox’ roster was dismantled after the disastrous September in 2011, Jonathan Papelbon found himself on the way out of town. Now in Philadelphia, the closer believes the Red Sox had the right idea about rebuilding, and the Phillies would be wise to follow their lead. While hopes were high in Philly at the beginning of the season, Philadelphia now finds themselves 10...

Papelbon likely going no where

After an eight game losing streak the Philadelphia Phillies have decided to sell and sell hard. One guy who has been talked about a lot is closer Jonathan Papelbon, especially with teams like the Detroit Tigers and Boston Red Sox in need of closers. One of them, the Tigers, satisfied their need with a trade for Jose Veras so that takes one team out of the market. Unfortunately...

Olney: Phils Reaching Out to Other Teams

So it begins. ESPN’s Buster Olney says the Phillies are calling other teams to let them know some players are available. All, except one: PHI has reached out to other teams to let other teams know that players are available, including Michael Young. Cliff Lee not on the list. — Buster Olney (@Buster_ESPN) July 28, 2013 All most of us can say is, about damn time. After Saturday’s...

Phillies Scouted Cardinals Top Prospect; Could Cliff Lee Go To St. Louis?

The Phillies may be re-signing Chase Utley, but they could be looking at a potential Cliff Lee deal as well. The Phillies scouts were seen at AAA Memphis scouting Cardinals pitching prospect Carlos Martinez. That would appear to make sense for one trade: a Cliff Lee trade. The Cardinals are...

If Raul Valdes Is Starting, Ruben Amaro Needs To Be Departing

35 With The Potential To Be 36 Tonight in Detroit, the Phillies had to scratch Cliff Lee due to injury -- honestly, if they had any smarts at all, they'd forbid him to pitch until he's traded  -- and went with Plan Z, which is Raul Valdes. A guy who hasn't started for a year. A guy with 2 career starts. A guy who should, well, never start for a major league team. Or...

Giants-Phillies Preview

The Philadelphia Phillies are on the brink of their longest losing streak in nearly 14 years. Perhaps returning home to face Barry Zito, who has yet to win a road start this season, will help them avoid it. Philadelphia tries to end an eight-game skid Tuesday night when it faces a struggling Zito and the San Francisco Giants. The Phillies (49-56) started their trip with a 13-8...

The Texas Rangers Are Interested In... Michael Young? Red Sox, Too; Utley Talking To Amaro

Michael Young's name has come up a lot in recent days, as seemingly an obvious candidate for a trade. With Phillies General Manager reportedly telling teams Young is not available, it sounds like the team has not even spoken to Young about a trade, reports Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports....
