With this week’s signing of Cole Hamels, the Phillies’ rotation and lineup is pretty well set for 2012. Hunter Pence still has to sign a contract, but is only arbitration eligible and not a free agent. Something will get done. The most interesting story is the Phillies’ camp is whether the team can sign Cole Hamels past the one-year $15 million deal. The one-year signing of Cole Hamels could seem like a bad move by the Phillies. However, in the Phillies camp, they are hopeful that Hamels can come to a long-term agreement before next season. It appears that the Hamels camp is seeking $20 million a year in a five-year deal. Kinda like two other pitchers in the Phillies staff, namely Roy Halladay and Cliff Lee.
