The Phillies’ September Call-Up? Pete Orr

The gust of wind felt across the Delaware Valley today was not brought upon by any Labor Day storm or cold front. The wind instead was the collective sighs and exhales from Phillies’ fans who wanted to see the man they called #BabeRuf on Twitter in red and white pin stripes before the end of the year. “Ruf Riders” were disappointed today as the Phillies added infielder Pete...

The Legend of Erik Kratz Grows

We Should Be GMs has been at the forefront of the "Erik Kratz for backup catcher" campaign for the past two season.  The first chapter of his legend was written during a brief stint with the club last September, but that served as merely a teaser.  In the offseason, Amaro insisted on re-signing the washed-up Brian Schneider, thus forcing The Kratzkin back to Triple-A...

Unnatural Things: The Phillies Blow a 6-Run Lead

One out away from sweeping the Braves, the Phillies blew it in the 9th last night. One lousy out and closer Jonathan Papelbon could not get it done. Worse, the Phillies allowed a 6 run lead to slip away in a game they should have won. Instead, the 8-7 walk-off loss may haunt the Phillies for some time to come. There are certain things in life, and in baseball, that should just never...

Philadelphia Phillies storyline: Coin-loaded GM’s

Juan Pierre is still with the Philadelphia Phillies and I am not surprised.  Why would you swap a .300 hitter to save $267K and receive a no-shot prospect? TAL’S HANDY CAPS   WELCOME, NEWCOMERS: I will publish after every game that is not washed out.  I will have many summer-long highlights of puzzle pieces, especially important after drubbings and defeats. If you were directed...

Lee Tosses Seven Strong, Picks Up Fourth Win; Phillies Defeat Braves, 5-1

Cliff Lee won his fourth game of the season this evening against the Atlanta Braves. Lee pitched a masterful outing of seven innings, allowing just five hits, walking one, and striking out five.  Lee was taken out after seven after reporting a tight hamstring. Lee later said it was not anything serious, just a cramp.  The Phillies provided plenty of offense to back up the...

Kratz Holds onto the Ball: Great Photo

Great picture of Philadelphia Phillies catcher Erik Kratz holding onto the ball after being run over by Chipper Jones. MLB had a great quote. @MLB Erik Kratz doesn’t always get trucked by Chipper Jones, but when he does, he prefers to hold onto the ball.

Cole Hamels Meme Contest: Vote for Your Favorite!

During Sunday's miserable game in Atlanta when things were still going well, Frank grabbed this picture of Cole Hamels on the mound and decided to make it a contest. The winner will get Frank's two tickets to Monday night's game against Miami. Please check out the photos and let me know who your vote is for!   Please comment below with a valid email address.  Vote...

Hope is Gone…Phillies Get Stunned!

Jonathan Papelbon quietly packed his red Phillies travel bag in the visitor’s clubhouse Sunday night at Turner Field. The closer had just served up a three-run home run to Braves third baseman Chipper Jones in the bottom of the ninth inning in a brutal 8-7 loss. Papelbon is paid big money to close games, so any time he blows one he is upset. But this one had a different feeling...

Cliff Lee Throws Gem as Phillies Win Third Straight, 5-1.

Final: Phillies 5, Braves 1. WP: Cliff Lee (4-7, 3.52 ERA) LP: Tim Hudson (13-5, 3.76 ERA) Offensively, the Phillies picked up right where they left off in last night's extra-innings thriller.  John Mayberry got things going with a RBI single to center field, giving the Phils a 1-0 lead.  Two innings later, Jimmy Rollins hit a solo-shot to right field, his 16th home...

Cliff Lee wins his second straight start as the Phils defeat the Braves, 5-1.

Cliff Lee wins his second straight start as the Phils beat the Braves, 5-1. The Phils took the lead in the first as, with two men on, and with two men out, John Mayberry,  Jr. hits an RBI single, knocking in Juan Pierre, who had earlier been safe at first on a force out, 4-unassisted, as Jimmy Rollins, who had started the game off with a single, is tagged out for the inning’s...

Phillies 4, Reds 2

Jimmy Rollins hit a three-run homer off Johnny Cueto during a cloudburst that sent fans scurrying for cover on Monday, leading the Philadelphia Phillies to a 4-2 victory over the Cincinnati Reds. John Mayberry Jr. added a solo homer off Cueto (17-7), who failed in his attempt to become the majors' first 18-game winner. Cueto also lost a day game for the first time this season...

Phillies double up the Redlegs, 4-2

Johnny Cueto's bid to become the majors' first 18-game winner fell short on Monday as the Reds (82-54) were edged out by the Philadelphia Phillies (65-70), 4-2. Jimmy Rollins smacked a 3-run homer in the fifth that proved to be all the visitors needed on a soggy Labor Day in Cincinnati. Despite the loss, Dusty Baker's club still enjoys the largest division...

Series Preview - Reds (Labor Day Shorty)

Monday, 1:10 - Tyler Cloyd v. John CuetoTuedsay, 7:10 - Oh no, it's KK v. .Matt LatosWednesday, 12:35 - Roy Halladay v. Mike LeakeA week or two ago, this would an important series to help the Pirates. But the combination of some skidding Buccos and some red-hot Reds have made this series meaningless for the Buccos. And some recent failures by the Phils have made the series meaningless...

Hudson, Braves knocked around by Phillies

ATLANTA (AP) -- Cliff Lee took advantage of some rare run support, throwing seven scoreless innings to lead the Philadelphia Phillies past the slumping Atlanta Braves 5-1 on Saturday. Jimmy Rollins hit his 16th homer for the Phillies, who got off to a good September start after a strong August. The wild card-leading Braves are heading in the opposite direction with three straight...

Braves shoot blanks against Lee in 5-1 loss

ATLANTA – Cliff Lee pitched seven shutout innings and drew a bases-loaded walk in the sixth to chase Tim Hudson from the game and lead the Philadelphia Phillies to a 5-1 victory over the Atlanta Braves on Saturday. Martin Prado’s lead-off home run in the eighth inning off reliever B.J. Rosenberg provided the Braves’ only run. “I felt like I was locating pretty good,”...
