According to USA Today, the Phillies have released Juan Castro. The move was made to clear a roster spot for Placido Polanco who is returning from the DL.
Castro, signed a one year contract which guaranteed him $750K with Philadelphia. The team is still on the hook for the $315K owed to him during the remainder of the year, plus the $50K buyout of his $750K option for next year. Castro was not having the best of years as he was .198 but had was forced into an everyday role due to injuries to the middle infield. He was also just a year removed from hitting .277 for the Dodgers and provided many timely pinch hits for them.
Could the Dodgers re-sign Castro which would then allow them to turn around and use Jamey Carroll who is hitting .297 and other pieces to acquire a pitcher they desperately need? The Dodgers this past week were contacted by numerous teams in regards to Carroll and his availability.
