MLB Injury News:
After his injury-plagued 2012 season, Roy Halladay has every reason to want to get out and start pitching early. He has done just that in ramping up his offseason throwing programs. Halladay has already arrived at the Philadelphia Phillies spring training facility in Florida to begin throwing.
Jim Salisbury of CSN Philadelphia says Halladay threw 30 pitches yesterday at the complex.

Halladay appeared in just 25 games last season. It was the fewest games-pitched for the two-time Cy Young Award winner since he appeared in just 19 in 2005. Halladay struggled when he did pitch last season. He posted an 11-8 record with a 4.48 ERA.
Halladay battled through a strained lat last season. The injury ultimately landed him on the disabled list and clearly affected his pitching. Halladay, 35, had managed to stay relatively healthy throughout his time in Philadelphia up to that point. Halladay helped the Phillies to the postseason in each of his first two years with the club. He threw a no-hitter in the 2010 Division Series.

The Philadelphia Phillies have had a busy offseason. They have traded for their starting centerfielder and third basemen in Ben Revere and Michael Young, respectively. They also blustered their bullpen by signing set-up man Mike Adams and signed fifth starter John Lannan. With all of these upgrades they may have made their best signing, and … Continue reading »

Last week, Jeff wrote about “What Delmon Young Was”, and he closed with these two paragraphs:
I haven’t yet figured out how Delmon Young hit that pitch for a home run. If you watch Young’s highlight videos, you’ll see similar batted balls that come off the bat faster than it seems like they should. That raw talent of Young’s hasn’t deteriorated with...

The Phillies announced Tuesday they had signed Young to a one-year, $750,000 contract, which a source said can become worth $3.5 million based on roster and performance bonuses. Young has had many issues both on and off the field. A most recent incident occurred last April in New York, where police arrested him on a…
Earlier today, I wrote about how Delmon Young would be a terrible fit with the Phillies. Sure enough, about an hour and a half later, Young signed with the Phillies for one year and $750,000, and GM Ruben Amaro said he imagined Young as the team's every day right fielder. Twitter went crazy soon after the signing, with about 95% of people echoing the same viewpoint I had earlier...
